About Our Community

A Campus Community

Emeritus at Chesterley Meadows and Court is just north of downtown Yakima – a lovely professinally landscaped oasis surrounded by the spectacular High Desert of the Yakima Valley, with its rolling hills dotted with fruit groves, working ranches and many lakes and rivers. Our campus runs right along side Chesterley Park and sits far back from Route 12. Close to everything that the Tri-Cities has to offer – yet away from the everyday hustle-bustle – our quiet campus offers two senior living communities in one:

  • Chesterley Meadows – a three-story assisted living community with 70 apartments, several common areas and a breezeway connecting it to Chesterley Court.
  • Chesterley Court – a small, intimate memory care community serving the special needs of seniors with Alzheimer’s and other memory impairments. Maximum capacity is just 16 residents.

The Perfect Location

Emeritus at Chesterley Meadows Campus is conveniently located right off Highway 12 on the edge of a lovely residential area. Spacious Chesterley Park is just next door – and several major stores, including Fred Meyer and BiMart, are in the local vicinity. Our community is also equi-distance from Memorial Hospital and Yakima Regional Hospital – and a skilled nursing facility is a quick two-minute drive.

From our community, residents have views of Yakima Valley, with its rolling hills and Yakima River. Occasionally, we take scenic drives up into the hills, where we stop by the elk station and feed the animals. Other terrific destinations – Maryhill Museum on the Columbia Gorge, local wineries and Dairy Gold – are among our residents’ favorite day trips. We’ll also take residents on longer trips – the Cle Elum tour, tour of the murals in Toppenish and visits to its casinos, and to a huge flea market in Packwood, on the west side of the Cascade Mountains. Residents just let us know where they want to go, and as much as possible we’ll take them there!

Our memory care residents also have ample opportunities to take in the sights; about twice a month, we take them on their own outings – to feed the ducks at Randall Park, to see the Christmas lights during the holiday season, for strolls in Chesterley Park or out to their favorite local Mexican restaurants. Memory care residents are always fully escorted to ensure their safety.

A Wonderful Selection

Our three-story assisted living community – Chesterley Meadows – offers 70 apartments, ranging from studios, deluxe studios and one-bedroom units. All of our apartments are light and bright and include a private bathroom with walk-in shower, safety rails, an emergency call system and wheelchair accessible sink. In addition, our apartments feature a kitchenette with a full sized refrigerator and microwave. One side of our building offers park views; the other, courtyard views. Our deluxe studios have a corner layout with extra large windows and a spacious open area.

Several common areas are available for our residents’ use:

  • Our coca-cola room looks like the real thing, with old-fashioned ice cream fountain décor, a checkered floor and red and black bar stools, along with a full kitchen. Families often have private gatherings here – as well as in our private dining room.
  • The TV room offers a large-screen television, where we show movies and residents play Wii.
  • An intimate and cozy fireside room on the first floor is the perfect spot for relaxing on winter days.
  • A spacious, light and airy dining room has a vaulted ceiling that opens onto the second floor.
  • Each of our three floors also has its own quaint sitting area.
  • The courtyard area out back offers raised vegetable and flower beds that residents are welcome to tend.

Our single-level memory care community – Chesterley Court – features 14 private apartments and 2 units with double occupancy. Each shares a bathroom and shower with another apartment – what some might call “Jack & Jill style.”

An absolutely gorgeous great room with huge ceilings and spacious windows is the center of Chesterley Court. It has been designed specifically for memory care residents, from the soothing colors of the walls to the way the room is sectioned off into smaller areas – a music area, craft area, TV room section and dining area. Here, in comforting surroundings, residents spend most of their time, unless they are sleeping or out and about on an outing. The great room – or family room as we fondly call it – looks out onto a secured walking courtyard, where residents can enjoy the out-of-doors in a safe, supervised environment.

Small, intimate and caring define Chesterley Court – and in fact, its unique environment is one key reason our community is so well-known throughout the Yakima Valley. Pets are also welcome at both Chesterley Meadows and Chesterley Court!

Strong, Caring Professional Relationships

There are many agencies within the Yakima area, all of which are welcome to come into our community to provide the full range of services our residents may require, from physical and occupational therapy to hospice, home health and vision care. They can provide services in any of our common areas, in hallways or in the resident’s apartment – wherever works best for the resident and therapist. Our nurses are delighted to coordinate these services for our residents. But of course, it’s always up to the resident and/or family member to choose whomever they’d like to use. We can make recommendations as well, such as Mountain View Home Health – one of our most popular providers with whom we work frequently.

No matter which agency or provider that comes into our community, we make sure that we keep in close communication with their staff, so that we are always up to date on the resident’s health status. Written notes of each visit are also included in the resident’s chart. We also have a visiting physician who pays house calls every Wednesday and a local dentist will come onsite as needed.

Our Staff

Compassionate, committed, honest, helpful – these are just a few of the words that our families and residents use to describe our staff. Perhaps that’s because our staff truly goes above and beyond. Whatever a resident needs, they make sure those needs are taken care of. There’s no shortcuts taken; we’re here to provide all of the services outlined in the care plan, and each of us is accountable for our actions. We truly are dedicated to our residents and their families – and believe it comes shining through in everything we do. It’s not surprising that we have a group of caregivers who have been with us for at least two years – some as many as seven. They stay because of our team-oriented family atmosphere at our community, where residents truly are part of our extended family.

Our community also has three full-time nurses, including a dedicated registered nurse for our memory care community and two nurses, one of whom is our Wellness Coordinator, for our assisted living community. Our nurses are responsible for coordinating our residents’ care and for monitoring their needs. For example, if a resident had surgery and needs wound care, it’s our nurses who would make sure home health comes in and provides the appropriate services.

In addition, our memory care staff has undergone extensive Join Their Journey training. This helps ensure that residents are always treated in a respectful, honorable way.
