This is a simple promise that the staff at Emeritus at Sugar Land; and throughout Emeritus senior living communities; has shared since 2003, when we first opened our doors. It's a simple promise to be compassionate and kind, understanding and respectful; a promise to become extended family to the seniors entrusted in our care.

The Perfect Location
Emeritus at Sugar Land is conveniently located in the heart of Sugar Land, right next to the Chamber of Commerce on a pass-through street between Highways 90 and I-59. We are close to all kinds of retail stores, from Wal-Mart to the First Colony Mall to Sugar Land Town Square, less than two miles away. The pedestrian-friendly center of Sugar Land, our Town Square caters to business people, community gatherings and of course, with its many retail stores – to shoppers. Several hospitals are in the immediate area, including St. Luke’s Sugar Land Hospital, Memorial Hermann Sugar Land Hospital and Methodist Sugar Land Hospital.
Sugar Land itself is a lovely small town, with tall oak trees lining many of its streets and bordering the Brazos River. From March to May, our beautiful Texas state flower – the Blue Bonnet – transforms the surrounding rolling hills into spectacular fields of deep blues and purples. That’s when we head out to Blue Bonnet Drive, up I290, for a wonderful scenic drive that our residents never miss!
A Wonderful Selection
Our assisted living community offers three senior apartment styles: a 389-square-foot two-room suite with a living room, kitchenette with a sink and refrigerator and a bedroom; a 337-square-foot alcove and a smaller 235-square-foot studio. All senior apartments include a private handicapped-accessible bathroom with seated showers and grab bars; closets; built-in bookshelves and cabinet; all utilities, including basic cable; and 24-hour emergency call services.
Several common areas are located throughout our one-story senior livingcommunity, including a lovely foyer area with the largest aviary in Sugar Land – home to 15 beautiful birds that residents love to watch. Right off our dining room is a fully enclosed outdoor courtyard area with a covered walkway that connects one side of our community to the other. We also have an activities room with vending machines and full kitchen, two separate television rooms – one in the parlor and another in our sunroom, which opens onto the courtyard. Our dining room, which is equipped with a piano, does double duty as a chapel on Sundays!
Memory Care is its own community with both private suites and Friendship Suites. Often, families choose to have their loved one share accommodations, not just for the cost-savings, but for the companionship. The ability for people with Alzheimer’s to care for others tend to decline. But when two people share a suite, it creates a good dependency, in which they tend to watch out for each other. Memory care also has its own dining room set up much like a homey old-fashioned country kitchen with a separate TV area. The dining room is also used for all kinds of activities. Residents are also welcome to use the full kitchen in the main dining room, with supervision, of course. In additions, residents have full access to their own private secured courtyard with planted walkways, patio, gazebo and a garden area with raised beds for them to tend flowers and vegetables. A memory care library is also available for family members.
Strong, Caring Professional Relationships
The Weston Group has its offices in our building and provides physical, occupation and speech therapy to many of our residents. The therapists can see residents in their room, in one of our common areas or in the Weston Group’s fully equipped exercise room. In addition, Southwest Home Health also has its office here. Should a resident require more extensive nursing care, such as wound care, respiratory treatments or insulin shots, families can use Southwest – or they can choose to bring in any home health agency they wish.
Many of our staff members have been with us for years – five have been here since we opened. Such longevity underscores how much they love working with seniors and how much pride they take in their jobs. They are extremely compassionate, they listen carefully and always put the residents first. There may be dishes to clean or floors to sweep, but getting a resident back to his or her room so they don’t miss their favorite TV show comes first. They’ll know if a resident has missed a meal or two and will actively seek them out and try to find out why. We also have three nurses on staff, including our Executive Director. These skilled professionals are often able to identify a problem – for example, a balance issue – before it can cause a serious injury. Our memory care community has its own dedicated staff, who undergo extensive training in working with people with memory disorders and in Join Their Journey, the Emeritus memory care program.
