Odessa, Texas Retirement Community
This is the promise that the staff at Emeritus at Sherwood Place; and throughout Emeritus Senior Living communities; has shared since 2000, when our community first opened its doors. It's a simple promise to be compassionate and kind, understanding and respectful; a promise to become extended family to the seniors entrusted in our care and to our residents who have chosen our retirement community for its active lifestyle.
The Perfect Location
Emeritus at Sherwood Place is conveniently located on the north side of Odessa, in an upscale residential area. We’re just one mile from Highway 191 and 385, with easy access to I-20 and everything Odessa and the surrounding region has to offer. Music City Hall – one of our residents’ favorite destinations – is literally three minutes from our community. With several malls are in the immediate area, we typically take residents shopping two or three times a month. Every Friday we go to our local Wal-Mart, just east of the Music City Shopping Center, and all of the great eating spots in this section of Odessa are close by. In addition, two hospitals – Odessa Regional Medical Center and Medical Center Hospital – are within five miles, and several physician offices and skilled nursing centers are in the neighborhood.
A Wonderful Selection
Just two stories, our retirement community offers 80 spacious senior apartments, including studios, alcoves and one-bedroom units. All apartments include a small kitchenette with refrigerator and microwave, a private bathroom – some wheelchair accessible – and are decorated in lovely warm colors that get many compliments. Our cozy library, with its grand piano, is a wonderful place to relax and listen to music by the fireside. A spacious, elegant dining room includes a smaller private dining area for residents to enjoy meals with family and friends. Upstairs, residents can watch movies, enjoy conversation and play games in the living room, which offers a large-screen TV – the perfect spot for such annual events as our Super Bowl parties! Our Coca-Cola room is another perfect place for social gatherings, and for the convenience of residents, we have our own chapel and beauty salon. We also have a small garden out front, which a resident who loves to garden takes care of, and tables set up out front for our smokers.
Strong, Caring Professional Relationships
We have developed strong partnerships with several local home health agencies. Most of our residents choose to use physical, occupational and speech therapists provided by the agencies with which we work on a regular basis because they trust us and trust that we’ll make sure they get the best care possible. Of course, they are welcome to bring in therapists with whom they’ve worked in the past – it’s always their choice. Nurses Unlimited also comes to our community on a regular basis to provide a variety of nursing services, from setting up walkers and refilling oxygen tanks to giving residents their insulin shots if they are unable to do it themselves. In addition, a local physician makes house calls when those residents who are his patients need medical care.
Emeritus at Sherwood Place offers a wonderful home away from home, a retirement community in which residents and staff alike are welcoming, warm and friendly. It’s not unusual to hear visitors comment upon how helpful and kind everyone is and how “happy” everyone is. One key reason is that our staff genuinely cares about residents – many have been here for years and consider our residents members of their family. For example, some of our residents have pets but can’t care for them. Our staff has been known to take the pet into their own home, then bring them back to the community for frequent visits. And everyone steps in to help when needed. Recently, we were short on dining staff. Everyone – from our executive director to our nursing staff to medication aids to our resident assistants – pitched in and took care of everything. It’s our teamwork and commitment to our jobs, combined with genuine concern for our residents, which sets Sherwood Place apart from other assisted living communities in Odessa.
