About Our Community

This is the promise that the staff at Emeritus at Park Place - and throughout Emeritus Senior Living communities - has shared since 1996, when our community first opened its doors. It's a simple promise to become extended family to the seniors entrusted in our care and to our retirees who have chosen our community for its active lifestyle.

The Perfect Location

Come into our community and you’re instantly greeted by a feeling of serenity and peace. In fact, visitors often pass by Emeritus at Park Place because our community is literally invisible from our street! Our building is tucked in the woodlands of Metzger Park, surrounded by huge trees and mature landscaping. Our dining room looks out onto a large duck pond, and a stream meanders through our property.

Yet we are close to everything! A major mall – Washington Square Mall – is just across the street. Providence St. Vincent’s Medical Center is an easy drive to our south. Two major routes – I-5 and Route 217 – are only minutes away. And there are three wonderful senior centers in the immediate vicinity. Emeritus at Park Place truly offers the best of all worlds – a beautiful natural setting, with all of the amenities of a major metropolitan area right in the neighborhood. Plus beautiful Portland is just 15 minutes northeast on I-5.

There’s never a lack of things to do, thanks to our incredible location. Here in the immediate area, restaurants love to go out for lunch at the Cheese Cake Factory, the Spaghetti Factory or to Graffers Fish and Chips, a little hole in the wall that’s famous for its seafood. And of course, frequent trips to Washington Square Mall are always popular with residents.

Three or four times a year, we head into downtown Portland, including trips to the Portland International Raceway for its annual Jubitz Winter Wonderland light show, or to the beautiful newly renovated Arlene Schnitzer Concert Hall, which is home to the Oregon Symphony, White Bird Dance Company, Portland Arts & Lectures, and many more local performing arts groups.

We take full advantage of our close proximity to the spectacular Oregon Coast, with country drives to Spirit Mountain Casino in Grand Ronde, Chinook Winds Casino and outlet stores in Lincoln City, and visits to walk along the boardwalk in Seaside. (Our residents have had great luck at the casinos; recently one of our residents won enough money to purchase our community a new Poker table!) And every year, typically in September, one of our residents very generously allows us to spend a relaxing day fishing at his home on a private lake in Washugal, Washington. We always bring back several fish, from which our chef prepares a fantastic fish fry.

A Wonderful Selection

Our two-story community features 112 apartments, including 281-square-feet studios and 374-square-feet one-bedroom units. All apartments come with a kitchenette with microwave and refrigerator, a private bath with wheelchair-accessible roll-in showers and grab rails, individual temperature control and all utilities except telephone (cable is included in the monthly rent.) Each apartment also has large windows, and most either face the duck pond or one of the several cul-de-sac landscaped areas on our property. Small pets are also welcome!

Senior Residential and Assisted Living

Our community has a fantastic layout – almost like an “S” – in which all of our common areas and amenities are easy to reach, no matter where the resident’s apartment is located. Our gorgeous dining room, which is located in the middle of our first floor, is in the front of our building, facing our large duck pond. Wall-to-wall windows create a spectacular “water” view.

Our second-story activities room provides plenty of space for our exercise programs, Bible study, games, socials, resident birthday parties and musical performances. At the end of each hall are cozy seating areas, with large windows providing beautiful views of our tree-lined property and bringing in lots of light into the interior hallways.

Residents love to sit in these comfy spaces, enjoying quiet conversation, relaxing with a good book, knitting or simply gazing out onto our lovely grounds. Outside, Emeritus at Park Place has walking paths that wrap around our entire community, from the duck pond to the garden and around the backside of the pond. The pathways are lit for those our residents who enjoy evening strolls in warmer weather. And just across the street is Metzger Park, where there are many paths, most of which are level and easy to walk or wheelchair along. In fact, often some of our lady residents enjoy taking a stroll in the park together. Small houses with several dead-end roads border the park, creating a quiet, safe neighborhood with little traffic.

Strong, Caring Professional Relationships

We work closely with Providence Home Health, which provides physical and occupational therapists who work with residents right here in the convenience of our community. Residents can be treated in their own apartments or if they are learning to use a new walker and have to navigate to the dining room, for example, the therapists will work with them in the common areas.

Through Providence, we can also bring in mental health counselors to help those residents suffering from depression or other issues. Several skilled nursing and rehabilitation centers are in the areas, including Meridian Park Hospital, St. Vincent's Hospital, Oregon Health & Science University, Beaverton Rehabilitation and King City Rehabilitation.

Should a resident require hospice care, we partner with two wonderful groups – Hospice Care of the Northwest and Serenity Hospice. Hospice might provide around-the-clock companionship, help with pain mediations, and support for the families. It’s very emotional when someone is in their final days, so we really depend upon our incredible hospice caregivers to be here for all of us, lending a helping hand and words of comfort.

Our Staff

Currently we have about 40 staff members, including two full-time registered nurses, a Resident Care Director, Med Techs who manage all of our residents’ medication needs, Resident Assistants who provide the personal one-on-one daily care, an Executive Director, Community Relations Director, Dining Services Director, Concierge staff, housekeeping and dietary aids.

Our staff is like one big family. Several members of our team have been with our community for more than nine years; you can see their pride radiating from their faces as you walk through our community! Words that residents commonly use to describe our staff are loyal, dependable, compassionate, supportive and hardworking. They pay a lot of attention to residents; one of our staff members loves to do our residents’ hair. Another staff member who works at our front desk often volunteers to help with outings in her spare time.

Emeritus at Park Place is committed to quality care, which reflects in our deficiency-free state survey! We also receive testimonials from residents and family members, like this: “I visit relatives at Emeritus at Park Place and find the community to be very clean, and the workers are very friendly and helpful. They also have a great dining area for the residents.”
