Hermiston, Oregon Assisted Living Community
This is a simple promise that the staff at Emeritus at Hermiston Terrace - and throughout Emeritus Senior Living communities - has shared since 1996, when our community first opened its doors. It's a simple promise to become extended family to the seniors entrusted in our care and to our residents who have chosen our assisted living community.
The Perfect Location
Our community is conveniently located in the small eastern Oregon town of Hermiston on Highland Avenue near Routes 207, I-84 and I-395. We are right in the midst of a residential neighborhood, just minutes to downtown – and only 35 minutes away from Washington State and the Tri-Cities area. Many of our residents are from this area and have chosen to stay here because of their love of the High Desert Country, with its unique dry weather, expansive Cascade Mountain range to the west and close proximity to the Umatilla National Forest in the Blue Mountains, just to our south.
A Wonderful Selection
Our small, homey community has 57 senior apartments, all on one level for easy access. We offer a wide variety of apartments to choose from, including studios ranging from 364- to 427- square feet, one bedrooms (either 492- or 577-square feet) and one very spacious two-bedroom unit. All apartments offer large windows, fresh-filtered heating and air conditioning system – both individually controlled; a large private bath with walk-in showers, hand rails and call lights; wall-to-wall carpeting; and a kitchenette with microwave and refrigerator. Residents are encourage to decorate their apartments any way they wish – we typically paint the apartment before move-in and residents can choose the color and of course, bring in all of their own furniture.
With just one story – and no stairs or elevators to navigate – Emeritus at Hermiston Terrace feels like home. And we offer many common areas for residents to gather, play games, watch television or read a book – just like home. A foyer with high vaulted ceilings first greets visitors. Our spacious dining room is furnished with extremely comfortably chairs in a lovely soft mauve. Just off the dining room is a private dining area for residents to celebrate personal occasions with family and friends. There’s also a coffee, juice and snack bar available 24 hours a day. The sitting room features comfortable couches and a gas fireplace – the perfect spot for relaxing on a chilly winter’s night. In addition, we have two activities room, one with a large screen television and library. We also offer the convenience of a beauty salon onsite, which is open two to three days a week, as well as free laundry facilities. An outdoor courtyard provides easy access to the out of doors. A large parking area is available for visitors and for our residents who
continue to drive.
Strong, Caring Professional Relationships
Hermiston is a small town, so naturally we have close relationships with most of the medical providers in town. On Tuesdays and Thursdays, we take residents to their own physical, occupational or speech therapy appointments. We can also provide transportation to local doctor’s appointments. And occasionally, representatives from our local hearing aid center come to our community to make sure our residents’ hearing aids are working properly. In addition, if a resident requires a higher level of care than we are able to accommodate, we can bring in outside Home Health providers or Hospice care to ensure their complete needs are met, right here. This gives residents the security of being able to “age in place.” Our Residential Care Director and nursing staff will coordinate services for the resident. They also work closely with the discharge planners at Good Shepherd Hospital should a resident require hospitalization or when a new resident is moving in following a hospital stay.
Cheerful, friendly and pleasant are just a few words that might be used to describe our staff – or as some residents have described them, “Fantastic!” Many of our highly skilled and experienced staff members have been here for several years. They cheerfully go about doing their jobs, always keeping in mind that they too have families and that they pride themselves on making Emeritus at Hermiston Terrace the kind of community that they’d feel comfortable having their parents or grandparents live.
All of our staff, which includes our Executive Director, Community Relations Director, Life Enrichment Director, Business Office Director, Maintenance Director, Resident Assistants, Med Techs and our Resident Care Director, a registered nurse who specializes in geriatrics, have extremely high standards and live by the Emeritus motto, “Our family is committed to yours.” For example, we have two very special caregivers who spend a great deal of time doing our ladies’ hair and makeup. Another group of staff members put together care packages for some of our residents who live on fixed income. And other staff member spends her own time after work joining residents on various outings – just for the fun of it! Creating friendships with residents and helping them feel good about themselves are ways that we make sure they live full, productive and independent lives.
