Lafayette Senior Living Community
This is the promise that the staff at Emeritus at Lafayette - and throughout Emeritus Senior Living communities - has shared since 2002, when our community first opened its doors. It's a simple promise to become extended family to the seniors entrusted in our care and to our retirees who have chosen our senior living community for its active lifestyle.
The Perfect Location
Our community is located in the exclusive neighborhood of River Ranch, right in the heart of beautiful Lafayette. This up and coming, yet older area of Lafayette offers the best of all worlds. It’s residential, yet close to many stores and malls, some of which are within walking distance. In fact, our community is located right behind Target, Coles, Albertson’s and several small shopping centers. And it’s close to the area’s major hospitals, including Our Lady of the Lourdes Regional Medical Center, just two minutes from us, and the Regional Medical Center of Acadiana, five minutes in the opposite direction.
Our residents are spoiled with so many shopping options and restaurants in the area! On average, we take them out three days a week wherever they’d like to go – to Target and Albertson’s, to their personal bank – all major banks are located in the immediate vicinity – for ice cream, to one of their favorite restaurants for lunch – or any other requested destination in the area. Attending the Acadian Symphony and performances at the Performing Arts Society of Acadiana, visiting our local history museum, taking in a movie or attending local sporting events are also frequently on the calendar. And every other month, we spend the day at the casino in nearby Baldwin, LA.
A Wonderful Selection
Set on two acres of beautifully landscaped grounds with a courtyard, Emeritus at Lafayette is considered one of the premier Louisiana assisted living facilities. Located close to I-10, our community offers 80 apartments all on one level for easy access. Our Assisted Living community has 54 spacious studio apartments in two sizes, 410 square feet and 510 square feet. Each is very “senior friendly,” with an open floor plan; a separate bedroom area; kitchenette with small refrigerator, microwave and sink with cabinets; and private handicapped-accessible bathroom with a separate vanity area; individual temperature control; and wall-to-wall carpeting. Each apartment located on the interior of our building has a patio that borders a beautifully landscaped courtyard, while exterior units have large picture windows overlooking our professionally landscaped property. When a resident moves in, we paint the apartment in the color of his or her choice.
Our assisted living residents share several common areas, including a lobby sitting area with a fireplace, where we serve beverages and snacks, and another sitting/game area with tables and a large skylight, with walls adorned with puzzles done by residents. We also have another room with a skylight that is used for our chapel; all denominations welcome. Our onsite beauty salon has also become a popular social gathering spot. Our hairdresser, who has been here for 12 years, is loved by all! Our activities room is the center for crafts, bingo, making bread and cookies, as well as for various socials, such as our weekly coffee social. Another common area has a grand piano, where we have a variety of musical entertainment programs at least four times a month. The community also has a television room and a library area with many donated books, a seating area and more skylights! We even have our own gift shop.
Our memory care neighborhood offers a similar layout, except that its 26 private studio apartments do not have kitchenettes for the safety of our residents. It’s important that residents are able to surround themselves with familiar items, so they are able to bring in all of their own furnishing and belongings. The neighborhood has its own dining room and separate activities area, with a large skylight, where residents do crafts, play games, read the newspaper and watch old-time movies. The community also has a secured landscaped courtyard with rocking chairs, swings and gazebo, where we host many social gatherings, including ice cream socials. Residents love music, so music is always playing!
Strong, Caring Professional Relationships
We work closely with many different home health and hospice agencies, and welcome our residents and their families to choose whomever they feel most comfortable with. Home health agencies typically offers the full range of physical, occupation and speech therapy, with therapists providing services in the resident’s apartment. For the convenience of the family, we can schedule the appointments for the resident – of course, residents can plan their own calendar if they are able. Adult care sitters and hospice providers are also very welcome to come into our community. We always communicate closely with any third-party provider who works with our residents. They are required to speak with one of our nurses before leaving and to provide a copy of their notes for the resident’s file.
Our goal is to help residents with all of their care needs, so that they can remain here in their own home for the rest of their lives. Should we be unable to provide a higher level of care, for example administering IV antibiotics, we partner with several skilled nursing facilities in the area, as well as with area hospitals and physicians. Our staff will make sure the resident’s transfer to another facility or to the hospital is as easy and smooth as possible. And we stay in close touch until the resident is able to come home.
Our staff holds a special place in their heart for seniors. When people come to tour our community, they often comment on how amazing it is that our caregivers seems to know all of the residents, how they reach out to them and how comfortable the residents feel with the staff. One of our caregivers is from France, and the residents love it when she talks in French to them, as many are French-speaking. Many of our staff have worked at Kingsley Place at Lafayette for several years – even longer. They have big hearts and care deeply about the people who they are here to help.
Come by and feel the warmth of our community for yourself. We may not be the newest building in the area, but we have an extremely friendly, active community where our residents are enjoying themselves and involved. We tell our visitors to go everywhere and look around at all of the senior communities in the area. They always come back and often say, “Wow, it’s so much nicer here!” Those words are music to our ears!
