Hendersonville, North Carolina Retirement Community
Heritage Hills Campus

A Campus Community
Heritage Hills is an Emeritus campus community set on 44 acres of rolling wooded hills and surrounded by farmland. Here we cater to two distinct groups, offering 100 one-, two- and three-bedroom retirement homes for the independent seniors in the 55-plus age group, and Emeritus at Heritage Lodge, our 24-bed memory care neighborhood.
Our retirement homes are set on a half-mile loop that weaves through our property, each with lovely views of our natural wooded setting. A walking path and boardwalk meander through the campus, along which many different flower, plant and tree species, including hard woods and pines, flourish. All kinds of birds and animals – even white squirrels – have made their home here. We also have four beehives that we use to pollinate our plants – plus an organic garden available to our residents. Our clubhouse is the center of our community – a place where residents gather for activities, dining and enjoying our new café and bistro.
The Perfect Location
Our community is just five minutes from downtown Hendersonville, NC on Highway 25 North. Hendersonville is a wonderful retirement town with shopping, restaurants and every amenity our residents could need, including two hospitals and several skilled nursing facilities. What they don’t find here is available in Asheville, just about 30 from our community – the cultural and arts Mecca of the Western North Carolina region. Several larger hospitals are also located in Asheville.
Our full-time Life Enrichment Director takes full advantage of our fantastic location, offering all kinds of day, overnight and weeklong excursions to points near and far. Cruising to the Bahamas, trips to Washington D.C. and the Outer Banks, day picnics to Blowing Rocks, Whitewater Falls or to take in a local ballgame are among our residents’ favorite destinations. Our community offers at least two or three day trips each month, along with overnight and week-long excursions throughout the year.
A Wonderful Selection
Our bright, spacious single-floor cottages are available in one-, two- and three-bedroom configurations. Each offers a full kitchen with granite counter-tops, new appliances and washer/dryer; one or two full baths; an over-sized garage that has been sealed with a slip-resistant surface; a sun porch with 8’ X 14’ deck; and large bay windows. Residents are offered a choice of carpet or laminated hardwood floors – whichever suits their tastes! Most of the homes are situated along a circle and look out onto the natural wooded area beyond. Residents can choose either a purchase option or lease for life option.
Our clubhouse is centrally located and offers a meeting area with tables and a large-screen television, a bistro, full dining room, library, computer room and billiards room. Residents can easily walk or drive up for their daily dinner, or we can pick them up by van and bring them to the clubhouse. Along the back of our campus is a wonderful organic garden, tended by staff and residents alike. Produce grown in the garden makes its way into our kitchen and is enjoyed by all.
Emeritus at Heritage Lodge, our 20-unit Memory Care Neighborhood, was recently refurbished with all new furniture, paint and flooring. Located in a separate T-shaped building, Emeritus at Heritage Lodge offers ten 294-square-foot suites and ten 411-square-foot suites, each with a full bathroom, kitchenette and living area. The larger suites also include a bedroom. We are licensed for 24 residents, so that two of our suites can accommodate two residents who wish to take advantage of our affordable companion living option. Our memory care residents have access to a secured outdoor courtyard area, a nice dining room and family room, where we hold church services and have family get-togethers. Our community also offers an onsite beauty salon/barber shop.
Strong, Caring Professional Relationships
Our community has close partnerships with many outside home health agencies, which are welcome to provide their staff to work with our retirement and memory care residents in their own homes. Physical, speech and occupational therapists, home health nurses, hospice, senior helpers – whatever service the family or resident requests, we can help coordinate. We are always happy to make recommendations, but of course, it’s always up to our residents and their loved ones to choose whomever they’d like to work with. A physician also visits our community once a week to care for our memory care residents at Emeritus at Heritage Lodge. We also schedule trips in our van to two local physician offices.
Our multicultural staff are true professionals with caring hearts. They are committed to always making the extra effort to help all of our residents with whatever they need. Our caregivers are highly motivated and love their jobs, which we attribute to a family-oriented culture in which we are all family. In fact, we treat our residents just like we would our own families. Our family truly is committed to yours!
Among our staff includes an incredible housekeeping and maintenance team here to help our independent residents with any indoor or outdoor need. Our cleaning staff comes by every other week to thoroughly clean each cottage – and once a year, they conduct a deep cleaning. Residents also have a helpful maintenance staff they can call upon, whether they need a light bulb changed and can’t reach it or want their front bushes trimmed. Maintenance is also responsible for keeping our roads clear of ice and snow – and as necessary, management always pitches in to ensure our residents can easily get around, despite inclement weather.
Emeritus at Heritage Lodge is staffed by fully trained memory care professionals. Not only do they receive ongoing training through the Emeritus Silver Chair program, but the staff undergoes weekly training in Join Their Journey. This is a special Emeritus program designed to embrace residents in the moment that they are in – whether they are back in the 1940s, 1920s or present-day. Our staff is trained in getting residents involved in stimulating activities, so that each day is not a day of boredom, but the very best it can be. They also are trained in various techniques – for example, how to validate and redirect a resident – to handle behaviors common to people with memory disorders. They have taken a keen interest in understanding Join Their Journey and making the program an integral part of the residents’ daily life. What’s more, our staff doesn’t simply join the resident in their journey, they embrace those journeys! Our commitment to Join Their Journey is one of the key reasons Emeritus at Heritage Lodge receives so many referrals from outside healthcare and government agencies.
