About Our Community

This is the promise that the staff at Emeritus at Harden Ranch - and throughout Emeritus Senior Living communities - has shared since 2004, when our community first opened its doors. It's a simple promise to be compassionate and kind, understanding and respectful - a promise to become extended family to the seniors entrusted in our care and to our residents who have chosen our senior living community.

The Perfect Location

Emeritus at Harden Ranch is conveniently located just off N. Main Street, close to Route 101 and Route 1, the major highway that runs north-south along the California coast. The Northridge Shopping Center, just minutes from our community, offers many large stores – Macy’s, JCPenney, Wal-Mart, Marshals and Target – to name a few – as well as many terrific restaurants; Marie Callendar’s, Olive Garden, Red Lobster and Applebee’s are among our residents’ favorites. Several hospitals are also close by, including Salinas Valley Memorial, Natividad Medical Center and Community Hospital of the Monterey Peninsula. And the Monterey Peninsula, with its many attractions, is an easy half-hour drive south.

The Northridge Shopping Center is literally three minutes from our community. Because it’s
just around the corner, we’re able to take residents shopping and out to lunch every week. And each year, Salinas is the location for one of the biggest rodeos in the country – the California Rodeo Salinas. We never miss the week-long festivities, which include musical events, rodeos, parades, barbecues, cowboy poetry, fireworks, concerts, a carnival and much more. In addition, Monterey is just about 17 minutes south, making it easy for us to frequently visit the Monterey Aquarium, the Steinbeck Center and Monterey Beach. Residents especially enjoy strolling along the Monterey Fisherman’s Wharf, the best place to take in the sights, sounds and scents of Monterey. Neighboring Wharf 2 is the heart of the area's thriving fishing industry, giving residents the opportunity to watch working trawlers unloading the catch of the day. Sea lions basking in the calm inner harbor waters, tours in glass bottom boats, whale watching, horse racing and deep-sea fishing make Monterey a top destination choice with our residents. The dramatic coastline of Carmel, just 20 minutes from Harden Ranch, have has been voted among the best beaches in the country. While the countryside is spectacular, Carmel is also a favorite
with residents for its Bach concerts.

A Wonderful Selection

Our community includes 69 apartments – 35 studio, one bedroom and one bedroom premium suites for our assisted living residents and 34 studios in our memory care community. For
our assisted living residents, we offer a wide variety of options to accommodate different budget needs, including larger apartments with additional walk-in closets, views of the mountains and patios. All apartments have large private baths with such safety features as a low-lipped shower with handles, seat and detachable shower head. They also include a kitchenette with small refrigerator, microwave, bar and cabinets; wall-to-wall carpeting; and individually controlled heat and air conditioning. Residents can also choose to live in a Friendship Suite, in which two residents share an apartment – the ideal option for residents looking for companionship or to save on rent. Our secured memory care community neighborhood is separate from our assisted living apartments. All 34 studios offer a large private bath with sink, toilet and cabinets; some include showers. For those who cannot shower on their own, we have a private bathroom with shower, where residents receive assistance from our caregivers. The memory care community also features two large living areas, two dining rooms, a private dining room and a large secured outdoor garden with many pathways.

Senior & Residential Assisted Living

Our assisted living residents have many areas within our community where they can get together for relaxation, socializing, playing games and attending special events. Our spacious living room on the first floor features a fireplace with large comfortable sofas and big plush chairs. Classical music or other favorite selections are always playing in the background, unless there is a structured activity going on. Our upstairs living room also has a fireplace, television and library off to one side. We have two large activities room – one that will accommodate family groups of up to 25, making it the perfect spot to enjoy Thanksgiving or Christmas dinner with family. Altogether, Harden Ranch has five outdoor patios with many walking paths. Our larger patios, which are furnished with wicker chairs, tables and umbrellas, are typically used for Mother’s Day brunches, Father’s Day barbecues and other special events. Our own beauty salon is open four days a week, providing hair styling services including permanents, as well as pedicures and manicures.

Strong, Caring Professional Relationships

Our residents have the security of knowing that several major hospitals, including Salinas Valley Memorial, Natividad Medical Center and Community Hospital of the Monterey Peninsula, are close by. In addition, we bring in outside health care providers as needed to provide physical therapy, occupational therapy, speech therapy, home health and hospice care.

Our Staff

Several of our staff members have been with our community for more than 10 years, including three of our directors and many of our caregivers. All of our employees take their responsibilities very seriously and become closely involved in the lives of our residents. They see each resident as an individual and treat them with a great deal of dignity and respect. After all, the word Emeritus means to retire with dignity. They show honest concern and do whatever they need to make the individual feeling comfortable. For our 35 staff members, working at Harden Ranch isn’t just a job; it’s their calling – and with that calling comes sincere passion and compassion for the people we serve.
