Northridge, California Retirement Community
This is the promise that the staff at Emeritus at Northridge - and throughout Emeritus Senior Living communities has shared since 2001 - when our community first opened its doors. It's a simple promise to become extended family to the seniors entrusted in our care and to our retirees who have chosen our community for its active lifestyle.
The Perfect Location
Emeritus at Northridge is conveniently located in the heart of San Fernando Valley, with easy access to I-405 and Route 118. Our community is in a unique resident/commercial area of Northridge, just across the street from Temple Ramat Zion and close to the Northridge Mall. In addition to our proximity to both Northridge Hospital Medical Center and Providence Holy Cross Medical Center, we have excellent relationships with other area hospitals, including Mission Community Hospital, West Hills Hospital Medical Center, Sherman Oaks Hospital, Encino Hospital Medical Center and Tarzana Medical Center. Connected to our community is a skilled nursing facility – literally just a few steps from our assisted living residences – allowing our residents to “age in place.”
We are also located close to several parks, including the popular Lake Balboa Park, where we often take resident for scenic drives and picnics. There are numerous golf courses and country clubs nearby, as well as a wonderful YMCA, all of the amenities at California State University Northridge (including its beautiful botanical gardens) and several museums – the Getty Museum, Ronald Reagan Presidential Library, Gene Autrey Museum, among other cultural attractions. In addition, our community is just about one hour from the Pacific Ocean – another favorite destination for our residents – and an easy two-hour drive from area casinos.
A Wonderful Selection
Unlike most senior living communities in the region, we offer it all – assisted living, a memory care neighborhood and skilled nursing – right here, on the same property. Our assisted living community offers 90 apartments, including studios, one bedrooms, and two bedrooms. All apartments are bright and spacious and include a kitchenette with a refrigerator, space for a microwave and sink; connection to basic cable TV; an emergency response system through Lifeline; and a private bathroom with walk-in showers equipped with safety bars.
Assisted living residents have access to several common areas, including a living room with a fireplace and new furniture, library, arts and crafts room, beauty salon and dining room on the first floor. The second floor features a multipurpose room for movies and group talks, along with a country kitchen where every day, residents are welcome to help themselves to a continental breakfast should they prefer something lighter than the full fare served in our main dining room. From the first floor common areas, residents have direct access to three courtyards, where they can enjoy walking along our wide pathways through our professionally landscaped grounds and gorgeous rose garden.
Our memory care neighborhood offers 24 apartments with capacity for 25 residents; 23 units are studios and one is a large shared studio. All memory care apartments include a private bath with ample storage. (Showers are supervised for the safety of our residents.) Common areas include a spacious living room, where many activities are held, a dedicated dining room and a large landscaped courtyard with walking paths and a secure fence around its perimeter.
Our skilled nursery facility is right on the property, but separated via a hallway. Here, with both private and shared rooms, we have the capacity to care for a total of 45 residents. Even though we are focused on the medical needs of each resident, we have taken extra effort to create a homey, bright and cheerful environment to help make their stay as pleasant as possible.
Strong, Caring Professional Relationships
In addition to having our own in-house skilled nursing facility, Emeritus at Northridge offers another unique advantage: a rehabilitation gym staffed by physical, occupational and speech therapists from The Westin Group. Owned by Emeritus, the Westin Group can provide services in the resident’s apartment, in our gym or in the hallways if that’s what the exercise program dictates. Skilled nursing residents are required to use the services of the Westin Group, as therapy is typically provided six days a week. With a doctor’s order, our assisted living and memory care residents are welcome to use the services of therapists from other agencies if they prefer or need to for insurance purposes. We also work with several outside hospice providers and can make referrals if the physician or family is unsure which agency to use.
Emeritus at Northridge also has its own Medical Director – in fact, the same physician has been serving our community since we opened in 2001. In addition to overseeing our medical staff, he makes “home” visits to those residents who are his patients. And should a resident’s own physician be slow at responding to a nursing request, our Medical Director can often provide the assistance required to help ensure that the resident’s needs are taken care of in a prompt manner.
Many of our staff members have worked here at Northridge since we opened the building – including many of the physical therapists, who have chosen our community because of the outstanding reputation of the Westin Group. The reason for such longevity is simple. Our staff know that they valued and appreciated by the people we are honored to serve. They love what they do, and receive a lot of support from management, including monthly education and training seminars. In short, our staff truly feels like family to one other and to our residents – we are all like brothers and sisters, dedicated to caring for our “parents” and “grandparents.”
