About Our Community

This is the promise that the staff at Emeritus at Brea- and throughout Emeritus Senior Living communities- has shared since our community first opened its doors. It's a simple promise to be compassionate and kind, understanding and respectful- a promise to become extended family to the seniors entrusted in our care and to our retirees who have chosen our community for its active lifestyle.

The Perfect Location

Emeritus at Brea is conveniently located just off the I-57 E. Lambert Road exit on West Central Avenue. While our retirement community is situated on a main street, there’s a distinct neighborhood feel to the immediate area. Residential, yet close to nearby Yorba Linda and Placentia, we offer it all! The Brea Mall is just four minutes south of our community. St. Jude Medical Center is about three miles southwest, and downtown Brea, with its quaint historical feel, is two miles south. Should a resident require skilled nursing services, we often refer them to our sister community, Emeritus at Yorba Linda – just about five miles from here – where we know they will be well cared for.

Our retirement community also offers easy access to many museums and attractions, including the Richard Nixon Presidential Library; Knott’s Berry Farm, where we often take residents for lunch; the La Mirada Performing Arts Center; and of course, Disneyland, which is just 20 minutes south. For those of our residents who are big sports fans, we take them to the Honda Center to watch the Anaheim Ducks and to the Anaheim Stadium to take in an Angels baseball game.

A Wonderful Selection

Our community offers great curb appeal, with a high-end feel – but not a high-end price! Emeritus at Brea is a beautiful, yet affordable senior living community where all of the services and amenities are included in the rent. We offer 98 senior apartments in a variety of styles, including studios and several one-bedroom configurations, some with kitchenettes. (If a prospective resident likes a specific apartment that doesn’t have a kitchenette, but wishes to have those amenities, we will do our best to renovate the unit before he or she moves in.) All senior apartments include individual heat and air conditioning; huge closets; private baths; sensors on all wall switches that automatically go on when the resident enters a room; either a patio (first floor), some of which look out onto a courtyard, or balcony (second floor) with views of our lovely landscaping. We also provide the Lifeline emergency response system to each resident. If they need assistance, they simply press the button on their pendant, and we will respond immediately.

Emeritus at Brea underwent a major renovation about five years ago, with new carpeting, crown molding, new ceilings and other updates made throughout the community. This includes the remodeling of our common areas, such as our well-appointed lobby; movie theater and library; arts and crafts room, where we also hold our exercise program; a bistro, where residents can help themselves to fruit, freshly baked cookies and pastries and coffee, any time, day or night. In addition, Emeritus at Brea features a beautiful fully enclosed courtyard, where we often have community barbeques. Pets are also welcome here; in fact, so many of our residents have brought their dogs, we installed a dog run. And for our residents who still drive, ample parking is available.

Strong, Caring Professional Relationships

With a doctor’s order, residents are able to have their physical, occupation and/or speech therapists provide services in the convenience of their apartment. If the resident needs a recommendation, our nurse is available to make and coordinate referrals. Therapists always complete a report after each visit, which goes into the resident’s file, ensuring that the communication channel is wide open and that our nurse is up-to-date on the care being provided to residents.

In addition, a podiatrist visits our community once a month to provide services as required. And a “mobile” physician and nurse practitioner pays “house calls” weekly to those residents who are their patients. Our own nurse can be included in these visits as necessary. We work with many different agencies in the area that provide a variety of senior care services, for example we have a dentist who provides services right here at our community. By having healthcare providers and therapists come into our building, we can provide many services on site for the convenience of our residents. In summary, our goal is to be as “user friendly” as possible for our residents, so that we don’t disrupt their daily routine.

Our Staff

Some of our 45-plus staff members have been here since our community opened more than 20 years ago. One of the primary reasons for such longevity is our hiring practices. We look for people with a passion for working with seniors, and who are genuine and always willing to go out of their way to help residents. Within a few days, we can easily evaluate whether they meet this criteria.

In line with the Emeritus philosophy, we take good care of our staff. We know from experience that if our caregivers are happy, our residents are also smiling. We make the effort to reward our staff for going above and beyond for our residents, providing free lunch tickets or gift cards to Target for simple acts of kindness. Let’s just say that many of our staff members eat here free most days! For example, instead of simply escorting a resident by wheelchair back to their apartment, our caregivers will engage the resident in a conversation – “How was your lunch today?” “Is there anything I can for you?” “Can I bring you some water now that you’re back in your apartment?” Our resident assistants empty the garbage in each resident’s apartment every morning, which gives us the opportunity to make sure the resident is okay and to see if they need assistance. We make sure everyone is accounted for a meal and if a resident isn’t feeling well, we always bring him or her a tray – no extra charge, of course.

It’s not surprising that our retirement community has gained a reputation for having friendly welcoming residents and an outgoing staff. With a 20-plus year history serving seniors, we have become a staple of the staple of the Brea community. As such, we receive many referrals from people throughout the community who have had a loved ones cared for here – often, we are told that Emeritus at Brea is the only assisted living community in the immediate area that they would recommend.
