Tucson, Arizona Retirement Community
This is the promise that the staff at Emeritus at Catalina Foothills and throughout Emeritus Senior Living communities has shared since our community first opened its doors in 1997. It's a simple promise to be compassionate and kind, understanding and respectful a promise to become extended family to the seniors entrusted in our care and to our residents who have chosen our retirement community for its active lifestyle
The Perfect Location
Just as our name implies, Emeritus at Catalina Foothills is located in a residential area nestled in the foothills of the Santa Catalina Mountains that surround Tucson. Manor Care Skilled Nursing and Hospice Family Care are on our property, making it convenient should residents require specialized health-care services. Our community is also just four miles from Tucson Medical Center – and 20 minutes from the University of Arizona.
Several major malls are within a 15-minute drive, including the Tucson Mall. With a variety of other stores – Wal-Mart, CVS, Walgreen’s and several grocery stores – close by, we can easily take residents to do their shopping and run errands. In addition, we occasionally make day trips to one of several national parks and wilderness areas just beyond Tucson, including Sabino Canyon. And just about every day, the weather cooperates! Tucson tends to be hot and dry, with little rain, no snow and no major weather events that plague other parts of the country. Just sunshine, sunshine and more sunshine!
A Wonderful Selection
Emeritus at Catalina Foothills underwent a major renovation recently and has been consistently maintained over the years. It’s beautifully appointed and spacious, offering 78 studio, one-bedroom, one-bedroom deluxe and two-bedroom units for our assisted living residents. Units range from 300 to 700 square feet. All apartments include a kitchenette with a microwave, sink, small refrigerator and freezer; a private bathroom with a walk-in no-lip shower and built-in shower chair; large windows that flood the units with light; and wall-to-wall carpeting in the bedroom and living areas. In addition, residents are given an emergency call pendant to wear and all apartments include a built-in emergency call system in the bathroom. Small pets are welcome in our community, as long as the resident is able to care for them.
Residents also have access to several common areas, including multiple cafes that are stocked with beverages, fruit and snacks. Our lovely library offers Internet access and a book magnifying system. Our community center is an all-in-one space for our exercise programs, movie nights and social gatherings. Emeritus at Catalina Foothills also has its own beauty salon/barber shop; arts and crafts room; a Wellness Center where residents can come and be seen by a nurse if they are not feeling well; and laundry facilities. Our community also features a wonderful outdoor area, with a covered veranda, barbeque area, covered walk ways and a fully furnished patio.
Located on the first floor, our Memory Care Neighborhood is smaller – just 18 studio apartments, each with a private bath and shower. While all residents are given an emergency call pendant to wear, we also check on them frequently to ensure their safety. Like our assisted living community, Memory Care residents also have access to several common areas, where they spend most of their days. These include a spacious living room, family room, full dining room and secured outside courtyard with walking paths.
Strong, Caring Professional Relationships
Outside health-care providers are welcomed into our community to provide services right here, on site, for the convenience of our residents. These include home health providers, as well as occupational, physical and speech therapists. We can make recommendations to trusted providers, but it’s always up to the resident and his or her family to choose whomever they’d like to work with. Depending upon the needs of the residents, services are offered in our common areas, in our exercise rooms and in the residents’ private apartment. All therapy services are overseen by our nursing staff, with the therapist’s notes always included in the resident’s chart to ensure our staff is up-to-date on services provided.
In addition, we have a close relationship with a major pharmacy in Phoenix and can get any medication required within three hours. We also offer the services of a podiatrist, who visits our community once a month – a terrific convenience, especially for those of our residents who have diabetes.
Residents are also welcome to use any Hospice provider in the area should they require end-of-life or palliative care. And in fact, most weeks there are nurses here from local Hospice agencies. As necessary, we can work with the families to help facilitate this service.
Many members of our caring and dedicated staff have been at Emeritus at Catalina Foothills for several years – some close to 10 years. They are a special group of people – patient, understanding and compassionate – who always have the best interests of our residents in their hearts and minds. If you were to walk around our community, you’d find our staff spending time keeping residents company, engaging them in conversation, taking them to activities and always asking them what they can do to make their day the best it can be.
Our community also has three full-time nurses – one in memory care, a Wellness nurse and our Resident Care Director. In addition, our staff includes certified caregivers; a full dietary and wait staff; and housekeeping, maintenance and support staff. It doesn’t matter who does what – at Emeritus at Catalina Foothills, everyone lends a hand and does whatever is necessary for our residents. All staff members are also thoroughly trained. In addition to meeting all of the criteria for Arizona’s Department of Health Services, they also undergo continuing education every month through the Emeritus Silver Chair Program.
