Bridgeport, West Virginia Independent Living Retirement Community

A Wonderful Active Lifestyle

Our Life Engagement Directors provide a variety of daily activities, games and events for our residents. Beyond our regularly scheduled card and Bingo games, we also offer monthly events designed to keep our residents socializing and learning. Some of these include a Spotlight Chef demonstration on how to make Southwestern Beef Wraps (samples provided, of course!), a monthly Meet Your Neighbor program during which residents have the opportunity to talk with local community leaders (mayors, councilmen, attorneys, doctors, etc.), oil and watercolor lessons and professional card-making classes – these are just a few of the many special activities all of our residents enjoy.

In addition, we offer transportation for residents wishing to take advantage of all the wonderful plays, concerts and festivals going on in the Greater Bridgeport area.

Memorial Day and Veteran’s Day are celebrated with special luncheon and dinner programs that honor those of our residents who have served our country – family members and friends are always invited. And often, guest speakers from the military pay tribute to and honor our veterans.

We plan special activities for ALL holidays: Easter Egg Hunts with a brunch buffet, Fourth of July picnics, Renaissance Fairs in the fall, and Hawaiian Luaus in late summer. We also have a wonderful Halloween Trick-or-Treating Night for the staff’s children, residents’ families and the public. During the Thanksgiving and Christmas seasons, the buildings are transformed into a holiday wonderland, with absolutely beautiful decorations that residents make and put up throughout our campus.

Partnering With the Local Community

Every month, Maplewood participates in hosting the Senior Advisory Group lunch meetings, as well as other community leadership groups. Maplewood provides free quarterly breakfast buffets for local law and public safety officers, and veterans (firemen, police, military) – all as a way of showing our appreciation for their service to our country and community. Local Lions Clubs, Rotary Clubs, Kiwanis, Senior Citizens and Women’s Clubs meet at Maplewood for club meetings. These relationships give families outside of our Maplewood “home” an opportunity to meet and associate with our residents and to see how beautiful our community is.

Fine Dining

Our community features three dining rooms – one main dining room in Maplewood for our Independent residents, who can choose up to three meals a day (one meal a day is included in their monthly rent); one at the Meadows dedicated to assisted living residents; and a private dining room that can be reserved for special occasions. Long-term care residents are served in their rooms.

Our residents often use words like “spectacular,” “delicious” and “wonderful” to describe our food – and our terrific chefs, along with menu variety, are the key reason. In fact, at lunch, residents can choose from two main specials, as well as standing menu items such as sandwiches, soups and salads. A lighter fare is served in the evening. Menus change daily and occasionally reflect specific resident requests. All meals are served restaurant style, with service provide by our gracious wait staff. Special diets are not a problem for our chefs; they have yet to be asked to accommodate a specific diet that they couldn’t address! Snacks are available throughout the day – and every day, our Independent residents enjoy Happy Hour.

From New Year’s Day brunch to Christmas dinner and every holiday in between, our community holds more special dinners and events than you can count! Barbeques and picnics in the summer, fall festival celebrations, Veterans appreciation dinners – if there’s a reason to celebrate, we’ll find it!
