When a new resident joins our assisted living community, our resident care director meets with the individual and their family to establish an appropriate level of care. Assisted living services could range from providing help with dressing or bathing to monitoring blood sugar levels for residents with diabetes. Although we are not a licensed memory care facility, some residents do have memory issues. For those, we are putting into place “memory boards,” which are located outside of their rooms and include a photo of themselves and loved ones, along with other reminders. In special situations, we can include an “every hour watch” in the resident’s care plan to be sure he or she is safe at all times. We also allow, and even encourage, family members to become involved in their care as much as they are able. For example, some family members stop by every day to set up and manage their mom or dad’s medication. Because we offer the full range of assisted living services, residents can feel confident that as the years go by, we will do everything to meet their needs so that they can remain here in their own homes. If their care needs change, we have conferences with family members so that they can prepare for the next step.
