A Wonderful Active Lifestyle
With such an active group of residents, our full-time Activities Director is diligent about planning all kinds of ongoing activities and events. Residents love the Fit and Stretch exercise classes, held six days a week. They enjoy all kinds of games, from cards to bingo, as well as arts and crafts. Every week, we bring in some kind of entertainment, from the Permian Basin Pickers to the Cowboy Singers. Movie nights with pizza parties are a regular event. We also have Happy Hour and a joint birthday party once a month. Sunday morning church services are provided by the First Baptist Church and Tuesday morning bible studies are led by the Church of Christ. In addition, we typically have an average of 10 volunteers from Community Senior Services here on a daily basis. They do errands for our residents, take them to the beauty salon or store, and run our exercise program. And children from a local elementary school visit here once a month.
Partnering with the Local Neighborhood Community
Every three months, we hold a large community event. For example, during a recent April, we invited the community-at-large to attend a carnival at our senior living community, during which we cleared out our parking lot and brought in all kinds of entertainment, food and games for children. In addition, we work closely with the local Alzheimer’s Association and sponsor a monthly support group for those of our family members who have loved ones with mild memory impairments. The support group is also open to anyone from the general public who may be struggling with caring for a loved one. We also partner closely with Hospice of Midland. Recently, some of the volunteers who visit our senior living community regularly created a wonderful CD of our community life and showed it at a Valentines’ Day party.
Fine Dining
Three meals a day, served restaurant style by our helpful and courteous dining staff, are included with the rent. Lunch and dinner both offer a main entrée and alternative, prepared by our talented chef/ Dining Services Director, who has been with Emeritus at Saddleridge Lodge for more than 10 years. Her “southern-style” down-home cooking always gets great reviews. Since she’s been here so long, she knows just what our residents like and caters to their preferences. She also takes the time to meet with new residents to chat with them about their likes and dislikes and even prepares a monthly resident’s choice meal, selected by our Resident Counsel.
In addition to three meals a day, snacks – fruit, cookies and cinnamon rolls, for example – are always available. Our diabetic residents also get an additional snack in the evening. Should a resident have special dietary needs, our chef can accommodate most requirements, from vegetarian to gluten-free diets. We even have one resident, who is on dialysis and has a long list of restrictions.
