A Wonderful Active Lifestyle
A wonderful daily calendar of activities is a big part of life here at Emeritus at Farmers Branch. The basis for many of our social programs are concepts drawn from the Paul Nussbaum’s book Save Your Brain. As much as possible, we incorporate the five components of good brain health – socialization, spirituality, nutrition, exercise and mind stimulation – into our day-to-day activities, helping ensure that residents remain vital and active.
We are also all about offering choice to our residents, which is why there are so many different types of programs available, including entertainment and special musical guests, movie nights with fresh popcorn from our own popcorn machine, card and board games, arts and crafts, and educational seminars and discussion groups. For those residents who love to give back, we provide a variety of volunteer opportunities. And for those residents who love to get out and about, our Life Enrichment Director plans all kinds of lunch outings, ice cream outings, shopping excursions and special family events. Computer and Internet access is also available, as well as weekly religious services.
Memory care residents have their own activities program, which is designed to promote stimulation, encourage one-on-one conversation based on their life stories, as well as enable them to enjoy activities they once loved, such as cooking and music. We also plan special events for our family members, giving them new ways to interact and enjoy being with their loved ones.
Partnering with the Local Neighborhood Community
We partner with many local organizations, including the Senior Centers in Farmers Branch and Carrollton, where residents are welcome to join in the many activities offered at these organizations. In addition, we work closely with the local chapter of the Alzheimer’s Association and participate in various fund-raising events, including sponsoring a team to walk in the annual Walk to End Alzheimer’s. In addition, we offer a monthly support group for family members of our memory care residents to which the general public is also invited. Various church groups in the local area are also a big part of the Emeritus at Farmers Branch community, providing many wonderful services and activities for our residents.
Fine Dining
Our beautiful dining room serves three freshly prepared meals each day, served restaurant style, nourishing both mind and body. Residents begin the day with a full made-to-order breakfast, followed by our main meal at lunch and a light dinner. Snacks are a regular part of the day for those who want a little treat between meals. We also have an outdoor barbeque, where we occasionally grill up some wonderful Texas-style favorites!
The menu for our memory care residents is the same, but they also receive three large snacks, which is especially important because residents tend to walk and wander a lot, which consumes larger amounts of calories. We also work with family members to make sure we know our residents’ food preferences – again, an important part of ensuring that they receive proper nutrition.
