Assisted Living Services
Our nurse visits prospective assisted living and memory care residents in their own environment to get a good sense of the individual’s abilities, needs and preferences. We then enter our initial assessment into our We Care state-of-the-art computerized evaluation program, with which we then create a personalized plan of care. The care plan specifies exactly what services the resident will need, so that he or she doesn’t receive or pay for extraneous services. In 30 days, we conduct a second evaluation, and in many cases, especially when a resident moves here from a rehabilitation hospital, their service needs decrease. We then conduct regular assessments every six months or sooner if their health condition changes.
Overall, our goal is to not just meet residents’ expectations, but to exceed them. Because we are a small community, we know our residents and can easily identify when they do or don’t need extra assistance. Because this is their home – and we are their family – our residents feel comfortable letting us know if they need anything, and we’re honored to serve them.
Alzheimer's and Dementia Care Services
Everything in our Memory Care Neighborhood is centered around Join Their Journey®, an innovative approach to care that focuses on validating and honoring our residents’ life stories. Most of our residents are living back in their younger years. By understanding their past, we can build meaningful relationships with them. They aren’t just Alzheimer’s patients to us; we get to know them as the pharmacists, housewives, ranchers and the professors that they once were. If the individual always took a shower in the morning, we will make sure they can continue that routine. They can’t tell us what’s wrong; but their behaviors can easily signal a problem. That’s why we work closely with our families to learn what the resident’s life was like before they became ill. It’s our way into their world.
Their activities are very different from our assisted living residents. It’s common to see residents setting tables, folding laundry, sweeping or doing any one of many “work” activities. Because in their minds they are at a time in life when they were busy with work or caring for children, they find it difficult to sit. Doing a productive activity gives them a sense of purpose and peace. Of course, we also provide many opportunities for fun and socializing. We take them on outings at least once a week – whether to get ice cream, look at Christmas lights, visit a local pumpkin patch in the fall, browse a jewelry shop in town, eat out or to attend the symphony – they’re always game!
