A Wonderful Active Lifestyle
Our full-time Life Enrichment Directors work extremely hard to offer a wide range of activities to suit just about every interest and personality.
Our independent residents enjoy many activities together – playing bridge, billiards and all kinds of games, from trivia to Skip Bo. They go out to lunch on a regular basis, get together to watch movies and attend church services twice a week in our own chapel (five ministers rotate through our community). The Skylyn Hookers meet frequently to enjoy needlepoint and cross-stitching together. Another group of independent residents go bowling weekly. And a group goes across the street to Trinity Health and Fitness at least twice a week. They also enjoy frequent outings – shopping, picnics, sight-seeing, and trips to the Chapman Cultural Center to enjoy a dance performance or live theater. And for our independent residents, we also organize a big trip once a year – for example, they recently went on a week-long cruise.
Our assisted living residents enjoy many of the same activities, but also get together for our daily exercise program, which include Tai Chi and is led by therapists from the Westin Group. Mobile manicures comes by occasionally and all kinds of entertainers perform here at Emeritus at Skylyn Pace – Elvis impersonators, Blue Grass, Country – and even a pianist from one of the nearby colleges performs here. Our own Joyful Noise Choir, which includes assisted living and memory care residents, also gives concerts for residents. Family nights are held once a month, typically in honor of that month’s major holiday – Mother’s Day, Father’s Day, Mardi Gras, Christmas, a fall festival in October – even Valentine’s Day is an extra special day at Emeritus at Skylyn Place!
For our memory care residents, we offer Join Their Journey, an Emeritus program designed specifically to help residents have success throughout the day. So they are able to go to bed at night with an overall positive feeling. Memory games, gardening, daily exercise, musical programs and pet therapy are just a few of the activities we offer our memory care residents.
Partnering with the Local Neighborhood Community
We partner closely with the Spartanburg community, sponsoring a major community event every few months. For example, we host the Spartanburg Senior Standout Awards, which recognize local seniors who are giving back to the community at large.
Emeritus at Skylyn Place also organizes events specifically to answer seniors’ concerns about a host of issues, from financial planning to long-term care insurance to veteran’s benefits. We bring in outside experts to address these issues and the Spartanburg community is always welcome to attend.
And of course, we work closely with the local Alzheimer’s Association chapter, participating in the annual Walk to End Alzheimer’s, as well as host fund-raising events to raise money for Alzheimer’s research. In addition, our Memory Care Director leads a monthly support group for anyone – our own family members and people from the community – dealing with a loved one who has a memory impairment.
Fine Dining
Our community has a total of six dining rooms. Everything meal is prepared right here. Our vegetables are fresh – whenever possible, we use produce grown in our own garden. Residents are waited on – just like in a restaurants, and can choose from one of two entrees at each meal. Independent resident also have a full salad bar. Breakfast offers all kinds of different choices daily, whether eggs made-to-order or crispy waffles with bacon. Lemonade, cookies and fresh fruit are always available for all residents.
Memory care residents are provided the same great choices, as well as three major snacks a day to help prevent problems with weight loss. Fridays are “Crispy Crème Donut Day!” Plus, we offer lots of finger food choices. Meals are served on colorful Fiesta ware, which makes it easier for residents to see the food on their plates.
