Local Seniors Receive Nutritious Meal From Emeritus at Northpark Place

Emeritus at Northpark Place in Sioux City is delivering them a free full meal through the "10,000 meals in 60 Days" program.

Channel 9 Excerpt:

"When they retire they have that loss of income and being able to buy those healthy fruits and vegetables becomes more difficult because that food is more expensive. As well as not being able to get to the store or have a caregiver that will take them out to buy that food," said Brittany Poss, Community Relations Director at Emeritus.

Right now, Mary says she's trying to work on her health getting a walk in when she can.

"Now, I go out and walk during the day. That's the best that I can do," Mary added.

Fox News Excerpt:

Watch the Fox News Feature.

Woodland Manor and Woodland Place here in the Binghamton area are serving local seniors --and visiting with those who don't get out of their homes very often:

"I'd like a steak. they brought me a delicious steak lunch. In fact I'd like to hire the cook! It's wonderful to have a phone call and say a meal is on its way. but, I'm a good cook also. I like to cook myself," said 86-year old Jimmie Langeon.

86-year old Langeon says lifestyles are much different than 60 years ago-- and often calls up food producers to ask that they don't put as much salt and sugar in their products.

Since her open heart surgery in December she's been extra mindful of her health. [ Read more ]

Carroll County Times Excerpt:

“We’re just trying to look out for anyone who might be in need of a good meal and some companionship,” Mott said.
So when Settle opened her door mid-morning Tuesday, she was handed two plastic containers filled with freshly made food.

“Oh my goodness,” Settle said, as Mott began pointing out the items.

There’s was baked ham and creamed corn. Sauteed spinach and a tossed salad. A roll and a cranberry orange dessert.
The recipes are broken down to include just the right nutrients per serving, Mott said.

Because as a person enters into their senior years, they should be mindful to fine-tune their calories, according to Darlene Flaherty, nutritionist at the Carroll County Health Department. [ Read more ]

Emeritus at Laguna Creek Celebrates Spring with Cookies and Ice Cream

The residents of Laguna Creek were on an outing to buy cookies at the famous Spaans Cookie Company in Galt, CA.

Spaans bakery business dates back to 1896 when Peter Spaans became an apprentice baker in Holland.

The cookie store is a museum and gift shop for everyone with a sweet tooth. After making all of our cookie purchases, we strolled the block and a half to the new Velvet Grill and had ice cream sundaes and root beer floats.

The weather was perfect so we all sat outside under the colorful umbrellas. [ Read more ]

Emeritus at Mandeville Launches Nutritional Senior Outreach Program

“Seniors may not get the nutrition they need for a variety of reasons,” says Michael Riley, Dining Services Director. “For some, it’s due to a lack of financial resources; for others, a lack of reliable transportation. And in many cases, isolation and depression have caused seniors to lose interest in cooking and eating healthfully.”

Emeritus at Mandeville has long been providing outreach to seniors who live at home through their Home Visits program, where dedicated senior living professionals visit people in their home to identify where they could use help and connects them with the services they need.

“We are committed to making sure that every senior in need in this area finds the combination of programs and services that serves them best, even if they do not live with us,” says Daniel J. Ritter, Executive Director. “The 10,000 Meals initiative also supports our ‘Safely Somewhere’ program, ensuring that no matter where a senior lives, they are safe and living a purposeful life.” [ Read more ]

Lexington Nebraska Seniors Enjoy the musical Annie at Local Opera House

We had the most wonderful time on March 16, 2013. We attended the musical Annie in Minden, Nebraska. They have an opera house that was restored, and let me tell you, they did a wonderful job.

Before the show started they had 2500 little lights on the ceiling, and they even had shooting stars.

It was so amazing; the residents really enjoyed themselves. We will go back again for sure. [ Read more ]
