My Worst Date Ever …happened on my very first date with a tall, handsome basketball player. It was the middle of January, 1968, in Decatur, Michigan! We went on a double-date with another couple on a Friday night right after a basketball game. It had been snowing lightly all day, but the snow became more intense as the evening wore on. We went to our favorite local diner for burgers and cokes, and as we left the diner, the guys made a secret plan to take us to a favorite ‘parking’ spot by a local lake.
Unfortunately, the road my date chose had not been plowed, and as we went further and further down the road it became clear that we were going to get stuck! When the snow started billowing up over the hood of the car, my date gunned the engine and that was it…we REALLY got stuck! Because no one in the car had any hats, gloves, or boots, it was a long, cold, miserable trek for our dates to go get help. About an hour later, we saw big headlights from a huge bulldozer headed our way! My girlfriend’s date was driving it, and pretty soon we were being dragged out of the snowdrifts back to civilization.
Oh, and just so you know, the basketball player and I had many more dates that turned out MUCH better. We were married in 1972.
