Skilled Nursing Facilities
A skilled nursing facility, also known as a nursing home, refers to a facility providing both 24-hour medical care and custodial care for people unable to care for themselves, either temporarily or permanently, due to mental, emotional or physical conditions. Facilities may be either independent or part of a senior continuing care community and have a licensed physician, as well as a nurse or other medical professionals on the premises most of the time. Services are regulated by the individual states.[1]
