Retirement Communities
A retirement community refers to a Continuing Care Retirement Community (CCRC) where a senior resides for the remainder of his or her life and affords the flexibility to move between independent living, assisted living, and nursing home care depending on life's changing needs. Seniors enter into a long-term contract to provide for continuing and progressive services, while allowing them to stay in a familiar setting as they get older. Note that it is common for seniors to begin living in a CCRC while they are healthy. Independent seniors may live in an apartment, condominium or single-family home within the retirement complex. When needed, depending on their condition, seniors may be transferred to a skilled nursing or assisted living facility.[1]
