Convalescent Homes

A convalescent home provides assistance for adults, typically seniors, who require 24-hour care with extensive medical needs or assistance performing activities of daily living such as eating, dressing, and grooming.[1] Unlike nursing homes and rest homes, convalescent homes are primarily designed to provide a home-like environment while patients recover from long term illnesses or medical procedures. Many physicians assign elderly patients to convalescent homes following surgery for long or short term physical therapy while most patients plan to return home at some point.[2]
