Seaside, Oregon Senior Living Community

A Wonderful Place to Live

Necanicum Village offers the best of all worlds: a small, cozy and welcoming senior living community located in a quiet rural setting, where everyone knows each other well. And we are now part of Emeritus, a national leader in senior living, with more than 500 communities located across the United States. Emeritus brings to our community exceptionally high standards, the best industry practices and many new resources that are directly enhancing the lives of our residents, from a new dining menu to a stronger, more diverse activities program to ongoing renovations. We are also the only memory care community on the north coast, and one of the best in the region. In fact, it’s not uncommon to see big improvements in our residents once they move in, get their medications under control and get the personalized attention they deserve. With so much right here at Necanicum Village, many of our residents are able to remain here, in their own home, even if their physical needs change.

Our activities program offers more choices than ever, thanks to the support of Emeritus. For our assisted living residents, we offer the monthly “lunch bunch” in which we enjoy a different restaurant, always the residents’ choice. We also offer all kinds of games, including bingo, board games, chess and Wii, as well as arts and crafts and movie nights. We have a gardening club that just planted 300 bulbs that will add splashes of color to our landscaping each spring. In addition, many of our residents are from the local Seaside area and want to go to their own churches. So every Sunday, we take residents to whichever local churches they wish to attend. We also hold monthly communion services right here at our community. And subscriptions to local newspapers are always available to ensure residents can keep up on current events and local activities. Our memory care residents also have the opportunity to participate in all kinds of activities designed specifically to meet their needs, including memory and sensory building games, scenic drives, escorted walks around our buildings, arts and crafts and movies.

Active Community Relationships

We are passionate about being active in the greater Seaside area. Our focus is to hold events that add quality and value to the lives of others. Toward this end, we sponsor ongoing educational events open to the public, which address issues of aging and elder care. We also invite friends from our local senior center to join us for a variety of seminars given by local experts on such topics as senior safety, how to prevent elder abuse, preparing a will and financial planning. For example, the chief of police and a local banker came to our community to discuss how to detect scams that target seniors. Every month, we hold an Alzheimer's support group to give our own families, as well as residents in the Seaside area, the opportunity to learn about the disease process and to share their feelings and concerns with others who are also struggling to care for a loved one with a memory disorder. In addition, we offer the opportunity for volunteers to come into our community to read to residents, play games and enjoy conversation. Occasionally students from local schools perform here. We also participate in community events, with residents attending community events as a group, and we work closely with Rotary and Meals on Wheels.

Every year, in early September, we participate in Wheels and Waves, which is sponsored by the Seaside Downtown Development Association. During this festive weekend, we join other seniors in the area for the “senior tour,” a parade of 60-plus classic car collectors who travel through all of the senior living communities in the area, then return to Necanicum Village for a barbeque. Many people in the area tell us that this is the highlight of the Wheels and Waves weekend!

Fine Dining

Our dining services offer delicious homemade “plated” meals, served restaurant-style by our caring and dedicated staff. We always offer two entree choices each lunch and dinner, which may include chicken cordon blue, veal parmesan, chicken paprika, bratwurst, turkey chili, Salisbury steak or lemon pepper baked fish, for example. Breakfast features a variety of offerings, including made-to-order eggs, blueberry pancakes, French toast with fruit toppings, cereal, ham and egg bake and biscuits and gravy. Friends and guests of our residents are always welcome to join us for meals. Our dining services director, Irene Vaughn, has been in elder care food service for 10 years and in the restaurant business since 1970, when she started her career at a young age working in hospital food service in Dusseldorf, Germany. She has achieved the ServSafe certification.
