Hermiston, Oregon Senior Living Community

A Wonderful Active Lifestyle

Hermiston Terrace was voted Best Assisted Living Facility in the area by the readers of the East Oregonian newspaper. One of the reasons the public knows our community so well are our Thursday night old-time country fiddle performances to which the general public is always invited. This weekly event has been a local favorite for close to five years!

Whether it’s an outside Marimba band performing for our community, our weekly fiddling concerts or an A Cappella group singing chamber choir selections, music is a large part of the rhythm of Hermiston Terrace. Our staff is another reason we received the “Best Of” award. Most of our staff hasa been here for years. They’re not only experienced in supporting the special needs of seniors, but they are always cheerful and friendly. Our staff has been instrumental in making Hermiston Terrace a comfortable, homey and active community, with wonderful down-home cooking, lovely décor, many ongoing programs and a strong connection with the community-at-large. Every day and in every way, they live the Emeritus philosophy: “Our family is committed to yours.” And our family doesn’t just mean staff, residents and their loved ones. At Hermiston Terrace, we also welcome all kinds of small animals, from dogs and cats to birds and fish, into our community!

Partnering with the Local Neighborhood Community

Among many outside groups with which we partner includes Canine Comforts, a dog therapy group whose members volunteer their time and their pets to visit libraries, nursing homes, hospitals and other people who could benefit from the companionship. Our residents can’t resist the pups! When Canine Comforts comes to visit, they get on their hands and knees to play and pet the dogs. All of the dogs that participate in the program have a calm and friendly temperament, know or are able to learn appropriate manners and are groomed before visiting.

Our monthly schedule is packed with all kinds of activities – from scenic drives, casino trips and river excursions to a host of programs held right here at Hermiston Terrace. Just about every day, we offer all sorts of activities, including brain health games like Sudoku and word scrambles, to engage the mind. Exercise is also very popular, especially kick ball, balloon tennis and chair aerobics. Our community also features a pathway around our building designed for easy walking – or for zipping around on a Motorized wheelchair. In fact, many residents enjoy scootering all the way downtown; Hermiston offers great sidewalks. Performances given by local musicians are held several times a month, including our Thursday night fiddler concerts and occasional A Cappella singing groups, who come into our community to entertain residents. We also we offer bingo, arts and crafts, twice weekly Bible study groups and the Red Hat Ladies Club. Holidays are important too. Residents and staff decorate our building for such major holidays as Thanksgiving and Christmas. In addition, around the holidays, we have been known to make ornaments and bake cookies, then deliver them in Elf hats to hospitals and other organizations in town.

Fine Dining

Our beautiful dining room, with its new furniture, comes alive with activity three times a day, when residents gather for meals. They can choose what they want from two main entrée selections, a choice of sides and of course, dessert! Dinner tends to feature traditional meat and potato dishes, as well as the occasional Mexican or Chinese cuisine. Residents simply fill out a menu card, which is collected by our wait staff, who then serves them their meals, restaurant style. Our chef also loves to do Spotlight Chef dinners, during which he will prepare a more extravagant meal, as well as meals for special occasions like “sweetheart dinners” for our couples on Valentines day, special dinners for couples celebrating their anniversaries and of course, for our monthly birthday bashes.
