With retirement and assisted living under one roof, our residents can “age in place.” For example, if the health needs of a retirement resident change, we can provide the additional assisted living services they may require, minimizing disruption to their lifestyle and alleviating the stress of having to move away from friends and familiar surroundings. We will also help with the move into one of our assisted living apartments, located in the same building. In these instances – or when a new assisted living resident first moves in – our Resident Care Director, who is a registered nurse, does a complete assessment to determine the appropriate level of services. From this and other sources, such as past medical records, we create an individualized care plan. In addition, we meet twice daily as a team to review residents’ needs and concerns. If one of our caregivers notices something amiss with a resident, it will be immediately brought to the attention of our Resident Care Director. Our goal is to get to know each resident personally, to be good listeners and to keep a close eye on them without being intrusive. If we are concerned about a health issue, we will always go to the resident first to make sure the problem is properly addressed. We aren’t “pushy,” but always diligent in making sure the resident’s health needs are taken care of. Sometimes that concern is temporary and simply requires a doctor’s visit, which we can arrange for the resident if necessary. Other times, we will bring in family members – but again, only to make sure there is a plan in place to address any changes we may see.
