Seniors often see multiple doctors and take many different types of prescriptions, making medication management a real challenge. To support the complex medication needs of our residents, we have installed the Vicura System, which automates the ordering and administering of medications. Of its many benefits, the system automatically checks all medications for drug interactions to ensure resident safety. Emeritus at Las Vegas is the only assisted living community in the State of Nevada that offers this important advantage to our residents and their families.

In many cases, family members can no longer care for their loved ones. Suddenly the senior doesn’t have a choice about moving into an assisted living community. We recognize this, and have put into place a home visit program that helps ease the transition. We get to know the senior and will find out about their special talents or interests. For example, if we discover the individual loves to knit, we’ll make sure they understand how much we would love to have their talents as part of our Yarn Club. During the home visit, we’ll do an initial assessment of their needs, followed by a second assessment 30 days after move-in. Seeing how the senior lives at home is so important; for example, if we notice that the resident has everything within easy reach of their sofa, creating an island around them, that may indicate that they are very concerned about falling. Once the resident moves in, our Life Enrichment Director and Dining Services Director will meet with him or her to make sure we thoroughly understand their likes and preferences. Above all, we live by the Emeritus motto, “Our family is committed to yours,” with the safety and happiness of our residents always foremost in our minds.

Memory Care Services

One of the key advantages of our memory care program is its small size. Our memory care neighborhood is intimate and manageable, which we find enables residents to more easily acclimate. In addition, although we offer private studios, most of our families prefer for their loved one to share accommodations, which not only cuts down on costs, but helps promote socialization.

As an Emeritus community, we follow the Join Their Journey program, which emphasizes joining the resident wherever they are at that moment, whether that’s back being a mom with a new baby or back to military days. We understand that trying to bring a resident into our reality may only provoke them and make them angry; instead we focus on redirecting them into a different activity or conversation. In addition, we offer special activities designed for memory care residents, but always allow them to take full advantage of any activity at our assisted living community.
