Assisted Living Services
Our assisted living services allow residents to retain the independence that they might not have otherwise. Services are tailored to their individual needs. For example, mom and dad may require the same level of care, but mom might need a special diet and help with bathing, while dad might require help with dressing and reminders. Our services are also designed to free residents to take part in more enjoyable activities. For example, by taking away the burden of managing their own medications, preparing their own meals and housekeeping, we give residents the time to focus on getting better, and to enjoy all of the activities we offer. We continually access the resident’s care plan, and increase the level of services as required so that they can remain in their own homes for as long as possible. We are also able to accommodate residents who may need to transition from assisted living to our dedicated memory care program, or we can bring in hospice to handle most end-of-life care needs. In addition, we offer a special program called the Potomac Terrace Club for those residents who have both diminished physical abilities and who may need extra attention due to increasing memory loss and cognitive changes. These residents live in a special area on the third floor of our community, where our dedicated staff assists them with their increasing physical needs. They also have direct assess to the wellness nursing station and can participate in their own recreation and social programs held right there. As necessary, the staff will take them to other areas within our community for additional activities or services.
Memory Care Services
Our memory care program, which is managed by our memory care director, can accommodate up to 16 residents. Each individual lives in his or her own apartment, either on their own, or as in our assisted living community, we offer them the option to live with another resident in a companion suite to minimize costs. We call the part of our community dedicated to memory care our “memory care neighborhood.” A few years ago, talented art students from a local high school painted a beautiful mural with bright flowers and birds, which was designed specifically to provide visual stimulation. We follow the Emeritus “Join Their Journey” approach to care in which our highly trained caregivers join the residents in their reality, instead of forcing them into ours. The neighborhood includes “life stations” that allow residents to physically participate in activities that can encourage cognitive function, recollection and memories, like gardening, handy work and cooking. For the safety of our residents, our memory care neighborhood is fully secured.
Our senior living community is designed to care for seniors with Alzheimer's, Dementia and/or memory loss issues through various services and amenities. These services and amenities will be based on each resident's needs. Learn more about Emeritus’ dementia care services.
