"We have promised ourselves that we shall always treat our residents as we would our own loved ones. Nothing less than our best will do."
This is a simple promise that the staff at Emeritus at Alexandria- and throughout Emeritus senior living communities-has shared since 1998, when Emeritus at Alexandria first opened its doors. It's a simple promise to be compassionate and kind, understanding and respectful- a promise to become extended family to the seniors entrusted in our care.
The Perfect Location
Emeritus at Alexandria is conveniently located in an upscale residential area, close to Highway 28 West and equi-distance to Christus St. Frances Cabrini Hospital and Rapids Regional Hospital, both within five miles. Over the past few years, many medical facilities have moved into the area, including eye care, rehabilitation services, a hearing clinic, sleep center, orthopedics group and home health agency. All are within close proximity to our senior community. In fact, Rapids Parish has become known as the medical destination for people living in the nine surrounding parishes, and Alexandria is at its center.
In addition, with easy access to many stores and amenities, we are able to take our residents on frequently outings – to Super Wal-Mart just up the street, to the Alexandria Mall, to our local movie theater and to Coughlin Center to enjoy live performances. We also visit the Alexandria City Museum on occasion, as well as attend minor league baseball games. Our Lunch Bunch loves to try out different restaurants, and sometimes takes in a play at the Coughlin Center in quaint downtown Alexandria, which is located on the Red River. Residents also enjoy our scenic drives into the older parts of town, especially in the spring when the wild azaleas are blooming, as well as monthly trips to Paragon Casino – a standing date that cannot be broken!
A Wonderful Selection
Our community offers 55 senior apartments – all with spacious open floor plans. We offer two sizes, our smaller Cypress Suite and our larger Magnolia Suite. Our apartments include a small refrigerator, sink and microwave; an open sitting area; and a privacy wall behind which is the bedroom area. A separate vanity area is outside of the bathroom, which includes a walk-in handicapped-accessible shower. Some of our apartments have French doors that open onto a patio. In addition, an emergency call pendant system is now included with the rent.
The assisted living community has two atriums – one on each side of the building – with lovely skylights, tables and chairs and in one, a library, with the other transformed into a chapel for Catholic mass and for saying the Rosary. In addition, residents love visiting in our spacious living room with large flat-screen television, piano and a fireplace dividing it from our dining room. Altogether our building has five fireplaces and five skylights!
Our Memory Care Neighborhood offers 25 apartments set up just like our assisted living community, except that some rooms have linoleum instead of carpet. We do offer the option of a Friendship Suite, in which two residents share accommodations – but that’s totally up to the resident and their families. A spacious living room with skylights and fireplace, two huge secured courtyards and two large patios off the dining and living rooms enable residents to easily enjoy the out-of-doors.
Strong, Caring Professional Relationships
Our staff works closely with many of the physicians nearby, as well as hospice agencies and inpatient/outpatient rehabilitation services. When residents require physical, occupational or speech therapy, we will provide referrals, but of course, it’s always up to the resident and family to decide who they’d like to work with. Therapists can provide services right on site, in the convenience of the resident’s home. When any third-party caregiver comes into our community, their visit is recorded in the resident’s chart, so that our nursing staff is always kept up to date on their resident’s status.
Our Staff
Our senior living community opened its doors 15 years ago – and some of the same staff continue to work here. And many have been here for 10 years. The reason for such longevity? They have a heart for the kind of services we provide. They truly believe in what they are doing and take the time to get to know our residents. If you were to watch them interact, you’d be amazed at how well they know our residents and how comfortable our residents are with them. They know they are being cared for by people who really do want to help them and who are dedicated to making their lives here enjoyable, productive and fulfilling.
