A Wonderful Active Lifestyle
Our community, which is dedicated to serving residents with memory impairments, offers a wide range of activities geared specifically to their needs. These include music therapy, reminiscent games and memory games. Because short-term memory is often severely compromised in seniors with dementia or Alzheimer’s, we also organize parties that take residents back to a time they remember most: to the ‘30s, ‘40s, ‘50s and ‘60s.
We do everything possible to actively involve families in our Alzheimer's care community. We hold monthly family nights. Families and friends are also invited for every major holiday, during which we organize brunches, lunches, cookouts and other special activities. Our goal is to make sure that even those residents who are physically impaired and unable to join their families at home during holidays can still share some special, private time together.
Partnering with the Local Neighborhood Community
Emeritus at Heritage Hills offers caregiver and support group meetings for our families and for the community-at-large. We also hold raffles, bake sales, garage sales and other fundraising activities to support our local Alzheimer’s Association. In addition, our community is a Partner in Education with the Blanchard Elementary School. As such, we invite students to our community for all kinds of events. In 2009, we had more than 450 children from the school stop by for treats on Halloween. We also sponsor a backyard Easter egg hunt and we participate in Blanchard’s Principal’s List.
We join with local assisted living communities to share expertise and discuss ways that we can enhance the care we provide our residents. In addition, hospice comes to our community three times a week to visit those residents in their care, and a local home health agency comes to our community to provide onsite physical and occupational therapy.
Fine Dining
People suffering from Alzheimer’s and other memory impairments typically don’t consume large amounts of food at any one time. To make sure they have a sufficient calorie intake, our menu includes three meals with entrée choices, and three snacks a day. We also offer various textures and finger foods, as some residents can’t use utensils. As necessary, our staff is here to help residents who need reminders to eat or who need physical assistance. In addition, residents who need less help eat 30 minutes earlier than other residents. All food is prepared in-house. Family members who join us for meals often tell us how much they enjoy our food.
