"We have promised ourselves that we shall always treat our residents as we would our own loved ones. Nothing less than our best will do."
This is a simple promise that the staff at Emeritus at Sandy Springs Place - and throughout Emeritus Senior Living communities - has shared since 1998, when our memory care community first opened its doors. It's a simple promise to be compassionate and kind, understanding and respectful - a promise to become extended family to the seniors entrusted in our care.
The Perfect Location
Emeritus at Sandy Springs Place is nestled in a secluded, wooded setting in the beautiful Atlanta suburb community of Sandy Springs, which is located just 15 miles north of the city. A thriving community of approximately 80,000 people, Sandy Springs is headquarters to more Fortune 500 companies than any other community in Georgia. Dozens of wonderful restaurants, shopping malls, banks and just about any other type of retail business our residents might want to visit are right here in the immediate area. With our close proximity to Highway 400 and I-285, we can easily take advantage of all the terrific attractions in the surrounding area, from the Georgia Aquarium to the gold mines at Dahlonega.
Our convenient location in the heart of Sandy Springs puts us right in the center of the action! The Perimeter Mall is a quick 10-mile drive from our community, always a popular choice for our weekly Wednesday shopping outings. On Fridays, we enjoy lunch at such famous spots as the Varsity, Atlanta’s oldest restaurant and the world’s largest drive-in, as well as Longhorn’s, Red Lobster and the Olive Garden. When we want to head into Atlanta, we just hop onto Route 400 and in just minutes, we can be touring the Georgia Aquarium, the world’s largest aquarium with more 60 exhibits, or visiting the Fernbank Museum of Natural History, Atlanta Botanical Gardens and the High Museum of Art, or attending the Fox Theater. Four times a year, we take residents on a tour of the Dahlonega gold mines and lunch at the Smith House, a tradition in Dahlonega. And for our sports enthusiasts, we occasionally take in an Atlanta Braves or Atlanta Falcons game.
A Wonderful Selection
Our Sandy Springs dementia care community offers four different neighborhoods, with 13 studio apartments per neighborhood. All 56 senior apartments are on one level for easy access and include a half bath, window treatments, all utilities except basic cable and telephone and individual climate-controlled heat and air conditioning. Each neighborhood has its own dining room, living room and kitchen. We also offer a secured outdoor courtyard area, with raised flowerbeds and a spacious patio with rocking chairs. A staff member always accompanies a resident when they are in the courtyard. Small pets are also welcome.
Emeritus at Sandy Springs Place offers a spacious Community Center for all residents. It’s located in the heart of our community and includes a beauty shop, our staff offices and three porches, each designed as a room – or what we call, a life station – that includes all kinds of items from the past. For example, our “kitchen” has a table, cupboards and equipment that residents can “play” with, but no working stove. The dressing room has clothes, a dresser with a mirror and easy chair, where residents love to spend time. Another “room” is our library, complete with comfortable chairs, tables and books.
We partner with the Weston Group, which provides physical, occupational and speech therapy as required at our sister community, Emeritus at Sandy Springs. We also have a variety of medical providers who routinely visit our residents, including a geriatric physician, geriatric physician’s assistance, dentists, podiatrists, ophthalmologist and home health caregivers. We can also coordinate rehabilitation, skilled nursing care and hospice care as needed.
Our Staff
All of our caregivers must be Certified Nursing Assistants with experience working with memory care residents and in managing medication. In addition, they undergo extensive ongoing training, for example, on the aging process, accident prevention, communication techniques, infection control, how to manage disruptive behaviors, resident rights and an intensive two-day training in Join Their Journey, with semi-annual refreshers. More importantly, our caregivers work here because they consider it their “calling” in life. They care caring, kind and benevolent – people with big hearts who dedicate their lives to our residents. In fact, one of our staff members helped open our assisted living community in 1996 and still works here today.
