My father who has Alzheimer's has been living at River Oaks since June 1, 2011. The staff is very understanding and good to the residents as well as helpful to family members dealing with this change of life. My dad is in the locked-down, memory care facility so the security is very tight. They are vigilant on keeping the environment secure so residents do not wander outside. Each resident has their own room or they can share a suite. You can rent the furnishing from River Oaks or you can have your own delivered. There is an area where they can freely walk outside onto a porch and get fresh air. The large common area is where they gather for activities and dining. The staff assures that each resident is seated and gets the proper meal for their needs. They provide laundry service, housekeeping, snacks, meals, various activities such as bingo, trips outside to ride around town or visit the beach, medication disbursment, assistance with bathing and personal hygiene, and many many more everyday tasks. This service is so important to people with Alzheimer's as they progress in the disease and loved ones are no longer capable of caring for them. Overall, I think River Oaks is a good place for my dad and I am comfortable with the accomodations.
my mom has been there only a few days, but so far, everything is great! seems to be lots of caring & compassionate folks working there and i am very pleased with the facility so far. my mom is very happy with it also....
I think that the Emeritus at River Oaks nursing home is a great place for elders that need support to live. My great grandmother lives there and they have a whole specially designed building for people with Alzheimer's to live which is what she has. She seems to be very happy there, and every time I have visited she is clean and looks well taken care of. They give her the support that is very hard for me to provide. They have a wonderful staff full of nice, caring nurses. Overall, I feel comfortable leaving her at this place knowing that she is in a good hands.
