What is Pick's Disease?
Pick's disease is a rare type of dementia, which results in personality changes, speech problems and loss of social skills and intellectual function.[1] It causes shrinking of the lobes of the front and sides of the brain. It is known as a frontotemporal dementia because of the parts of the brain it affects.[1][2] It usually develops between the ages of 40 and 60 and is more common in women than men.[3] Symptoms worsen slowly.[4] There is no cure for the disease and it usually results in death by infection. Death may occur in less than two years or more than 10 years.
