Diagnosis of Dementia

How do you Diagnose Dementia?

Diagnosis of dementia is complex and your doctor may perform several tests.[2] Your doctor will look at your medical history and determine if there may risk factors such as diabetes and high blood pressure that can be controlled. Your doctor will conduct a physical exam. This may include blood and urine tests. Tests of brain function will be useful in assessing problem areas. Other tests of balance, function of the senses and reflexes may be done. A medical test such as a CT scan, an MRI and/or EEG (electroencephalogram) can pin point problems in the brain. Finally, a psychiatric evaluation may be done to evaluate depression or another condition.
