Treatment for CJD

Treatment for Creutzfeldt-Jakob Disease (CJD)

There is no cure for CJD.[1] Treatment is aimed at relieving or modifying symptoms. Opiates may be used to relieve pain. Drugs such as clonazepam and sodium valproate may be used for muscle spasms. In the late stages of the disease, intravenous fluids and artificial feeding may be necessary for patients who are unable to swallow. Researchers are testing many drugs for their effectiveness in treating CJD.
