"We have promised ourselves that we shall always treat our residents as we would our own loved ones. Nothing less than our best will do."

This is a simple promise that the staff at Emeritus at Colorado Springs — and throughout Emeritus Senior Living communities — has shared since 1999, when our memory care community first opened its doors. It's a simple promise to be compassionate and kind, understanding and respectful — a promise to become extended family to the seniors entrusted in our care.

The Perfect Location

Emeritus at Colorado Springs is centrally located off Academy Blvd, nestled in a hillside setting and hidden from the street. Our closest neighbor is beautiful Palmer Park, located just behind us. Yet we’re just 10 minutes from downtown and close to several shopping areas, including the Citadel Mall. Several hospitals are in the area; Memorial Hospital is just five miles from our community. There are also numerous skilled nursing facilities in the greater Colorado Springs area, including our sister community, Emeritus at Bear Creek. If a resident requires skilled nursing care, we can easily transfer them to Bear Creek; of course, it’s always up to the family to choose the facility.

We also take residents on scenic drives throughout the area to such lovely destinations as the Garden of the Gods Visitor and Nature Center, set against the spectacular backdrop of snow-capped Pikes Peak. In fact, while at the summit of Pikes Peak, Katharine Lee Bates was inspired to write "America the Beautiful.” Colorado Springs truly is the epitome of America the Beautiful!

If you and your loved one would like to visit, please feel free to come anytime – day or night. There is always someone on staff to show you around, 24 hours a day. And as you’ll quickly see, we are unlike any other memory care community in the area. We pride ourselves on creating a warm and home-like environment in which our residents are treated like beloved family members.

A Wonderful Selection

Our single-story community offers 60 one-bedroom studio apartments, each with its own bathroom with sink and cabinets. Bathrooms have accent walls and colored toilet seats as residents often have a difficult time with depth perception. (Bathing is assisted in private bathrooms located in our community). Some apartments offer courtyard views, others have views of the back yard and park, and a few look out onto our lovely front entrance area. All apartments are bright, cheerful and airy – and families are welcome to decorate the rooms any way they wish to make them feel just like home. They can even paint the walls if they desire. Of the 60 studios, we also offer 8 companion suites for those of our families looking for companionship for their loved one or to share the cost of rent.

Within our community, there are four separate neighborhoods, each serving a total of 17 residents. Each neighborhood has its own living room, dining room and kitchen. This creates a more intimate setting, which is especially important for those residents who have anxiety issues and difficulty dealing with larger groups of people. Residents can wander from one neighborhood to another – even eat in another neighborhood with a friend whenever the wish.

Our courtyard area, which borders the wooded Palmer Park, is enormous, offering residents access to a wonderful outside area. They have the freedom to come and go as they please, so they don’t feel constricted. Yet the entire courtyard is full secured, allowing them to safely enjoy Palmer Park from a distance.

Strong, Caring Professional Relationships

Virtually any type of healthcare service required – from home health to hospice to physical therapists – are welcome to provide services on side. Families can choose whom they’d like to provide services – or we can guide them to providers in the immediate area, including those with whom our memory care community works with on a frequent basis. There’s a great deal of communication with our staff, so that we are always kept up to date on the status of the resident. Physicians from the immediate area also make “house calls” to Emeritus at Colorado Springs.

Our Staff

Memory Care residents are on much different schedules than residents in assisted living and retirement communities; they may choose to wander around during the night. As a result, we maintain the same 6:1 staff ratio during the day – and throughout the night. Many of our caregivers are certified nursing assistants, and several are Medication Technicians, who must go through state-certification training before they are able to distribute medications. Many of our staff members have also undergone first aid and CPR training – and all receive ongoing training in the Emeritus Join Their Journey program. In addition, we provide a monthly training program called Silverchair Learning, which includes bringing in outside experts to help keep our staff up to date on a wide range of topics related to caring for seniors with Alzheimer’s and other memory impairments. In addition to being thoroughly trained, our loving staff is exceptionally devoted to our residents and attentive to their needs. They are patient, kind and understanding, always working diligently to help ensure that each day is the best day it can be for our residents.
