Salinas, California Assisted Living Community

Assisted Living Services

When you grow older, you often feel as if you are losing your independence – especially if you can no longer drive. At Emeritus at Harden Ranch, our staff is committed to helping our residents preserve their independence and dignity by providing the assistance they require, while giving them the opportunity to enjoy and experience the things that are important to them, such as playing bridge with a group of friends, trips to the shopping center and or tending to a garden. Furthermore, if a resident can physically do a task him or herself. We encourage them to do so either with a reminder or prompt. Helping residents maintain their sense of independence is key to helping them maintain an active and healthy lifestyle for as long as they are able. Supporting our residents’ needs on a daily basis is our wonderful team of Resident Assistants. They escort residents to and from meals and activities as needed. They help them with personal care needs, such as bathing and dressing – again only if those services are required. They take residents to their doctors’ appointments and wait with them. And they – like all of our staff members – are always here to extend a helping hand and kind words, whether residents are feeling lonely or simply need a friend to listen.

Alzheimer's and Dementia Care Services

We have incorporated the Emeritus Join Their Journey program into our community. So what does this mean for our memory care residents? It means exactly that; weJoin Their Journey. For example, we have a resident whose husband passed over ten years ago. She tells us every day that she needs to speak with him right away. Instead of reminding her that her husband is no longer with us, which typically causes agitation, frustration and/or depression, we validate her need to speak with him. We enter into the reality of our residents because it is the moment in time that is most important to them. And what is important to them becomes important to us.

Our staff receives extensive ongoing training to ensure that we are providing quality care as well as a supportive environment for both our residents, their families and our staff. We also provide educational programs and support groups for family members who have a loved one with memory impairment. Through our support group, we're able to encourage family members to share their feelings and struggles - how difficult it is to see their father or mother who no longer remembers them. We embrace our families, letting them know that they too are a member of our family and we are just as committed to supporting them as we are our residents.
