A Wonderful Active Lifestyle
Our senior community encourages our residents to be as independent as possible while staying active and social with other community residents.(Our community is not set up to accommodate seniors with memory impairments. If you loved one requires such services, we can refer you to a sister Emeritus community that includes a memory care community.) To meet the needs of our active resident population, we offer a full activities program.
To help residents remain as independent as possible, our day starts with morning exercise. We offer a chair exercise program, as well as Tai Chi. After exercise, we typically have an arts and crafts program, ranging from card making to woodworking. Residents often lead programs, from craft classes to knitting lessons to sing-alongs. Other common activities held most days include Bingo, board games, Bridge and all kinds of card games, including Texas hold ‘em.
We also offer several clubs – many of our lady residents belong to the Red Hat Society and for our male residents – we have an abundance of men at our community! – our senior living community offers a Men’s Club. Both groups enjoy monthly outings, whether it’s a ladies day out shopping or taking our sports enthusiasts to a local baseball game or the entire community joining together for a day trip to a local casino or to the annual Classic Car Show in downtown Brea. Our community also has a very active Gardening Club, which tends to the gardens in the courtyard. In addition, we offer church services and bible studies here at Emeritus at Brea and will also take residents to their own churches on Sundays per their request.
Families are a big part of our senior living community as well. We recently initiated candlelight dinners and quarterly champagne brunches for residents to enjoy with their family members. Emeritus at Brea also has a private dining room that residents can reserve for special occasions. Whatever residents wish to do, they simply need to express their interest to our full-time Life Enrichment Director, who we like to say was born to be an activities director! She does everything in her power to make sure there are always a variety of goings-on scheduled on the daily calendar, so that residents have multiple activities to choose from.
Partnering with the Local Neighborhood Community
Every few months, we hold a major event here at Emeritus at Brea – a Memorial Day Barbeque, Father’s Day Cookout, Chamber mixers, among many others. The public, including any home health or medical professional, is always invited to join us. In addition, healthcare providers from the Brea area come into our community each week to provide information sessions designed specifically to help enrich the lives of seniors, focusing on such topics as fall prevention or how to protect yourself from heart disease.
Fine Dining
The first thing most people notice when they walk into our dining room is all the conversation and socializing going on! Part of this comes from our assigned seating program, in which residents sit with people who share common interests at each meal. We find that this approach helps create strong bonds of friendship. Of course, it’s flexible; should a resident wish to move to a new table, that’s just fine.
Our residents often tell us how much they like our food – not surprising, since our chef is a graduate of La Cordon Bleu Culinary School, which originally started in Paris, France. We have regular food servers; our caregivers are reserved for providing assisted living care, not waiting on residents in the dining room. All meals are served restaurant style, with two entrée choices available at both lunch and dinner. We can also handle most special diets, except pureed diets. If a resident has dietary restrictions, their photo and list of restrictions are posted in our kitchen. Snacks are available in our bistro 24 hours a day – so that a resident can get a quick bite even if it’s in the middle of the night.
