Sweet, young, and beautiful Miss Johnson worked as a nurse supervisor at Parkland Hospital. This was during the World War II days when everybody did their part to make our country the best. Miss Johnson had tried to join up but was told she was more useful helping train nurses. At Parkland there were also young medical students being trained by different branches of the military, racing their way through medical school so they would be ready to serve where they were needed. As a result, part of Miss Johnson's job was to keep the two groups separate. <span class="read-more"><a href="/senior-living-blog/contest-submission-davis-grandmas-worst-date-ever" title="Read the whole post" style="text-decoration:none;"><strong>[&nbsp;Read&nbsp;more&nbsp;]</strong></a></span></p> <p><a href="http://www.emeritus.com/senior-living-blog/contest-submission-davis-grandmas-worst-date-ever" target="_blank">read more</a></p> Wed, 08 Feb 2012 17:38:56 +0000 lori.belton 193182 at http://www.emeritus.com Contest Submission by Carin Z.: Grandma's Worst Date Ever http://www.emeritus.com/senior-living-blog/contest-submission-carin-z-grandmas-worst-date-ever <div class="field field-type-text field-field-author"> <div class="field-items"> <div class="field-item odd"> Emeritus Senior Living </div> </div> </div> <div class="field field-type-date field-field-publish-date"> <div class="field-items"> <div class="field-item odd"> <span class="date-display-single">Wednesday, February 8, 2012</span> </div> </div> </div> <p><img src="http://media.emeritusassistedliving.com/misc/cat-contest.jpg" style="float: right;" height="250px" width="250px" /><br /> <b>By Carin Z.</b></p> <p><b>Grandma’s Worst Date Ever: The Cat Called It</b></p> <p>Grandma had been set up on a date with a man named George by her friend Patti. Grandma quickly apologized for her cat’s behavior and joked that maybe it was a sign. <span class="read-more"><a href="/senior-living-blog/contest-submission-carin-z-grandmas-worst-date-ever" title="Read the whole post" style="text-decoration:none;"><strong>[&nbsp;Read&nbsp;more&nbsp;]</strong></a></span></p> <p><a href="http://www.emeritus.com/senior-living-blog/contest-submission-carin-z-grandmas-worst-date-ever" target="_blank">read more</a></p> Wed, 08 Feb 2012 18:01:49 +0000 lori.belton 193186 at http://www.emeritus.com Contest Submission by Jacque S.: Grandma's Worst Date Ever http://www.emeritus.com/senior-living-blog/contest-submission-jacque-s-grandmas-worst-date-ever <div class="field field-type-text field-field-author"> <div class="field-items"> <div class="field-item odd"> Emeritus Senior Living </div> </div> </div> <div class="field field-type-date field-field-publish-date"> <div class="field-items"> <div class="field-item odd"> <span class="date-display-single">Wednesday, February 8, 2012</span> </div> </div> </div> <p><img src="http://media.emeritusassistedliving.com/misc/vday.jpg" width="570" /><br /> <b>By Jacque S.<b></b></b></p> <p>I am submitting this story on behalf of my mother, a grandmother of four.</p> <p>On her first date in over 16 years, my mom experienced what has to be one of the worst possible outcomes. A friend shared my mom’s phone number with an older, single man she worked with. He promptly called my mom and asked her out to dinner. In true female fashion, my mom was nervous about what to wear and what she should talk about. She fretted all week with her hair and eventually made an appointment to have it done the day before. She worried that she’d put on too much weight and that he wouldn’t find her attractive. The day of, she was sick to her stomach with butterflies and anxious about meeting this man. <span class="read-more"><a href="/senior-living-blog/contest-submission-jacque-s-grandmas-worst-date-ever" title="Read the whole post" style="text-decoration:none;"><strong>[&nbsp;Read&nbsp;more&nbsp;]</strong></a></span></p> <p><a href="http://www.emeritus.com/senior-living-blog/contest-submission-jacque-s-grandmas-worst-date-ever" target="_blank">read more</a></p> Wed, 08 Feb 2012 17:48:18 +0000 lori.belton 193184 at http://www.emeritus.com Contest Submission by Debbie H.: Grandma's Worst Date Ever http://www.emeritus.com/senior-living-blog/contest-submission-debbie-h-grandmas-worst-date-ever <div class="field field-type-text field-field-author"> <div class="field-items"> <div class="field-item odd"> Emeritus Senior Living </div> </div> </div> <div class="field field-type-date field-field-publish-date"> <div class="field-items"> <div class="field-item odd"> <span class="date-display-single">Wednesday, February 8, 2012</span> </div> </div> </div> <p><img src="http://media.emeritusassistedliving.com/misc/vday.jpg" width="570" /><br /> <b>By Debbie H.</b></p> <p>My Worst Date Ever …happened on my very first date with a tall, handsome basketball player. It was the middle of January, 1968, in Decatur, Michigan! We went on a double-date with another couple on a Friday night right after a basketball game. It had been snowing lightly all day, but the snow became more intense as the evening wore on. We went to our favorite local diner for burgers and cokes, and as we left the diner, the guys made a secret plan to take us to a favorite ‘parking’ spot by a local lake. <span class="read-more"><a href="/senior-living-blog/contest-submission-debbie-h-grandmas-worst-date-ever" title="Read the whole post" style="text-decoration:none;"><strong>[&nbsp;Read&nbsp;more&nbsp;]</strong></a></span></p> <p><a href="http://www.emeritus.com/senior-living-blog/contest-submission-debbie-h-grandmas-worst-date-ever" target="_blank">read more</a></p> Wed, 08 Feb 2012 17:55:37 +0000 lori.belton 193185 at http://www.emeritus.com Contest Submission by Heidi G.: Grandma's Worst Date Ever http://www.emeritus.com/senior-living-blog/contest-submission-heidi-g-grandmas-worst-date-ever <div class="field field-type-text field-field-author"> <div class="field-items"> <div class="field-item odd"> Emeritus Senior Living </div> </div> </div> <div class="field field-type-date field-field-publish-date"> <div class="field-items"> <div class="field-item odd"> <span class="date-display-single">Wednesday, February 8, 2012</span> </div> </div> </div> <p><img src="http://media.emeritusassistedliving.com/misc/vday.jpg" width="570" /><br /> <b>By Heidi G.</b><br /> I am actually writing about my Mom (who has 15 grandchildren! And she still remembers all their names!):</p> <p>I was in High School when my Mom started dating again after her marriage of 20 years ended. One of the gentlemen she went out with my brothers and I nicknamed “Fast Hands Phil”. He was dropping her off after a date and he parked the car. He leaned over to open the door for my Mom (or so she thought!) and flipped the lever on the seat to make it recline. Luckily, my Mom was able to get out of the car without incident and that was the last time we ever saw Phil! <span class="read-more"><a href="/senior-living-blog/contest-submission-heidi-g-grandmas-worst-date-ever" title="Read the whole post" style="text-decoration:none;"><strong>[&nbsp;Read&nbsp;more&nbsp;]</strong></a></span></p> <p><a href="http://www.emeritus.com/senior-living-blog/contest-submission-heidi-g-grandmas-worst-date-ever" target="_blank">read more</a></p> Wed, 08 Feb 2012 17:40:59 +0000 lori.belton 193183 at http://www.emeritus.com Contest Submission by Lauren & Mathew: Grandma's Worst Date Ever http://www.emeritus.com/senior-living-blog/contest-submission-lauren-mathew-grandmas-worst-date-ever <div class="field field-type-text field-field-author"> <div class="field-items"> <div class="field-item odd"> Emeritus Senior Living </div> </div> </div> <div class="field field-type-date field-field-publish-date"> <div class="field-items"> <div class="field-item odd"> <span class="date-display-single">Wednesday, February 8, 2012</span> </div> </div> </div> <p><img src="http://media.emeritusassistedliving.com/misc/contest-soda.jpg" style="float: right;" height="250px" width="250px" /><br /> <b>Submitted by Lauren and Mathew in honor of our wonderful Grandmother. (Emailed by Theresa H.)</b></p> <p>I hope you enjoy this story. My children have a wonderful Grandmother that has told many great stories over the years. Here is the one of her first date.</p> <p>Grandma was a shy nineteen and had never been on a date. Her older sister and husband had a friend that was paid to take her out on her first date. He was older, polite and chose to take her to a drive-in theater. The movie began and Grandma realized she needed to use the ladies room. She excused herself from the car and wandered back to the concession area. After spending time in the ladies room, she walked out into the dark and realized, to her horror, she did not remember what car her date was driving. So she began to walk up row after row, searching for her unfamiliar date and car. Pretty soon she heard a horn honking. As she approached the car and began to climb in, her date thought perhaps she should pull the back of her skirt out of her panties. Grandma was horrified and sat quietly through the rest of the movie. <span class="read-more"><a href="/senior-living-blog/contest-submission-lauren-mathew-grandmas-worst-date-ever" title="Read the whole post" style="text-decoration:none;"><strong>[&nbsp;Read&nbsp;more&nbsp;]</strong></a></span></p> <p><a href="http://www.emeritus.com/senior-living-blog/contest-submission-lauren-mathew-grandmas-worst-date-ever" target="_blank">read more</a></p> Wed, 08 Feb 2012 17:22:06 +0000 lori.belton 193181 at http://www.emeritus.com Contest Submission by Jeannette H.: Grandma's Worst Date Ever http://www.emeritus.com/senior-living-blog/contest-submission-jeannette-h-grandmas-worst-date-ever <div class="field field-type-text field-field-author"> <div class="field-items"> <div class="field-item odd"> Emeritus Senior Living </div> </div> </div> <div class="field field-type-date field-field-publish-date"> <div class="field-items"> <div class="field-item odd"> <span class="date-display-single">Wednesday, February 8, 2012</span> </div> </div> </div> <p><img src="http://media.emeritusassistedliving.com/misc/vday.jpg" width="570" /><br /> <b>By Jeannette H.</b></p> <p>My worst date was with a guy I met online. We talked a few times and he seemed pretty nice. I met him for dinner at Applebee’s and the entire dinner he was texting. Not only that he INSISTED I order something off the two for twenty menu, which was a real turnoff (especially since I didn't want something from the 2 for 20 menu). Of course, I quickly ate and politely thanked him for dinner and left. The funniest thing was the next day he asked me out again and was surprised when I said no. Definitely a "Grandma's worst date ever contender". <span class="read-more"><a href="/senior-living-blog/contest-submission-jeannette-h-grandmas-worst-date-ever" title="Read the whole post" style="text-decoration:none;"><strong>[&nbsp;Read&nbsp;more&nbsp;]</strong></a></span></p> <p><a href="http://www.emeritus.com/senior-living-blog/contest-submission-jeannette-h-grandmas-worst-date-ever" target="_blank">read more</a></p> Wed, 08 Feb 2012 18:05:28 +0000 lori.belton 193187 at http://www.emeritus.com Contest Submission by Nancy J.: Grandma's Worst Date Ever http://www.emeritus.com/senior-living-blog/contest-submission-nancy-j-grandmas-worst-date-ever <div class="field field-type-text field-field-author"> <div class="field-items"> <div class="field-item odd"> Emeritus Senior Living </div> </div> </div> <div class="field field-type-date field-field-publish-date"> <div class="field-items"> <div class="field-item odd"> <span class="date-display-single">Tuesday, February 7, 2012</span> </div> </div> </div> <p><img src="http://media.emeritusassistedliving.com/misc/vday.jpg" width="570" /><br /> <b>By: Nancy J.</b></p> <p>I tell this one to my two grandkids Aidan (12) and Paige (9) and they think it’s hilarious:</p> <p>It was 1966, I was 15 and it was my very first date. His name was Paul and we were double-dating with another couple. I was very nervous. After a movie, we stopped at Manner’s Big Boy and ordered a bucket of chicken. </p> <p>Just as I took a bite of chicken, Paul took a wing in his hands and ‘flew’ it around the car. It was one of those jokes that is hilarious when you’re only 15. I started laughing. Then I started choking. And then, to my horror, I threw up in his car! He never took me out again. I saw him at our 40th reunion and, much to my mortification, he remembered our date! <span class="read-more"><a href="/senior-living-blog/contest-submission-nancy-j-grandmas-worst-date-ever" title="Read the whole post" style="text-decoration:none;"><strong>[&nbsp;Read&nbsp;more&nbsp;]</strong></a></span></p> <p><a href="http://www.emeritus.com/senior-living-blog/contest-submission-nancy-j-grandmas-worst-date-ever" target="_blank">read more</a></p> Wed, 08 Feb 2012 00:36:23 +0000 lori.belton 193177 at http://www.emeritus.com Contest Submission by Kathy E.: Grandma's Worst Date Ever http://www.emeritus.com/senior-living-blog/contest-submission-kathy-e-grandmas-worst-date-ever <div class="field field-type-text field-field-author"> <div class="field-items"> <div class="field-item odd"> Emeritus Senior Living </div> </div> </div> <div class="field field-type-date field-field-publish-date"> <div class="field-items"> <div class="field-item odd"> <span class="date-display-single">Tuesday, February 7, 2012</span> </div> </div> </div> <p><img src="http://media.emeritusassistedliving.com/misc/vday.jpg" width="570" /><br /> <b>By: Kathy E.</b></p> <p><b>This is a short story of a date gone wrong by the words of a parent to a teenage daughter</b>.</p> <p>My daughter had informed my husband and me that she had a date on Friday night after a high school game and was asking our permission to go out with a young man from her school. She was a 17 year old senior and this young man was 18 and also a senior at the same high school. We told her of course you can go out after the game, but first we must meet the young man and we reminded her of her curfew time. She agreed and went merrily on her way. <span class="read-more"><a href="/senior-living-blog/contest-submission-kathy-e-grandmas-worst-date-ever" title="Read the whole post" style="text-decoration:none;"><strong>[&nbsp;Read&nbsp;more&nbsp;]</strong></a></span></p> <p><a href="http://www.emeritus.com/senior-living-blog/contest-submission-kathy-e-grandmas-worst-date-ever" target="_blank">read more</a></p> Wed, 08 Feb 2012 00:47:01 +0000 lori.belton 193178 at http://www.emeritus.com Contest Submission by Donna: Grandma's Worst Date Ever http://www.emeritus.com/senior-living-blog/contest-submission-donna-grandmas-worst-date-ever <div class="field field-type-text field-field-author"> <div class="field-items"> <div class="field-item odd"> Emeritus Senior Living </div> </div> </div> <div class="field field-type-date field-field-publish-date"> <div class="field-items"> <div class="field-item odd"> <span class="date-display-single">Tuesday, February 7, 2012</span> </div> </div> </div> <p><img src="http://media.emeritusassistedliving.com/misc/vday.jpg" width="570" /><br /> <b><a href="http://www.facebook.com/permalink.php?story_fbid=10150560672813318&amp;id=82009373317&amp;ref=notif&amp;notif_t=wall">By Donna</a></b></p> <p>My "steady" was away at college, so I was technically free to double with one of my best friends who was only allowed on a car date if there was another couple along. Neither of us knew who the date would be, only that he was her date's cousin. I was in my room getting ready when they came for me. My mother came into my bedroom doubled over and laughing in a wheezing gasp as she managed to get out the words: "wait until you see what Arlene has done to you!" </p> <p>Let me insert here that our 50's ranch was the only one on our street without a porch. We just had a stoop which had a NASA approved light bulb that was seen throughout the neighborhood. There for all the world to see, in all his glory, stood the great detective himself - Sherlock Holmes. Fedora, mustache and meerschaum pipe. I don't think he had the plaid mac, but he may have. It was 1967, I was 17. This was not cool. <span class="read-more"><a href="/senior-living-blog/contest-submission-donna-grandmas-worst-date-ever" title="Read the whole post" style="text-decoration:none;"><strong>[&nbsp;Read&nbsp;more&nbsp;]</strong></a></span></p> <p><a href="http://www.emeritus.com/senior-living-blog/contest-submission-donna-grandmas-worst-date-ever" target="_blank">read more</a></p> Tue, 07 Feb 2012 21:29:24 +0000 lori.belton 193176 at http://www.emeritus.com
