Alzheimer's, Dementia and Memory Care Services

At Sunshine Village, we work with people who have all kinds of memory disorders, including Alzheimer’s, Lewy body dementia, Parkinson’s, vascular-related dementia resulting from strokes, alcohol and drug-related dementia, and even the rare neurodegenerative disorder called Pick’s disease.

Each of our residents is affected differently; some need help doing everything, while others simply need constant reminders. Regardless of the type of dementia, our goal is to promote as much independence as possible for all residents, with our caregivers stepping in when needed to help complete a task. For example, if someone is able to brush his or her teeth and just needs reminders, we are the safety net to make sure they do. But if they are able to do these tasks, we don’t take over and do it for them.

Most memory disorders are progressive and will typically need increasing levels of care. To ensure that their changing needs are met, each resident is given a complete assessment every 90 days by our nursing staff. Our Resident Assistants, who are assigned to specific cottages, provide ongoing assisted living services, taking care to treat each resident like they would their own parents – with dignity and respect. As our Executive Director always likes to say, “We are here to serve our residents and to make sure we enrich their quality of life.”
