Programs & Services Offered:
Alzheimer's and Memory Care
"We have promised ourselves that we shall always treat our residents as we would our own loved ones. Nothing less than our best will do."
This is a simple promise that the staff at Sunshine Village - and throughout Emeritus Senior Living communities - has shared since 1998, when our community first opened its doors. It's a simple promise to be compassionate and kind, understanding and respectful - a promise to become extended family to the seniors entrusted in our care and to our retirees who have chosen our community for its active lifestyle.
The Perfect Location
Nestled among palm trees and greenery, Sunshine Village is truly the hidden jewel of the north Phoenix and Scottsdale areas. Located just off Highway 51 and just south of Loop 101, we are conveniently located and easily accessible. A number of wonderful shopping, dining, cultural and entertainment venues are located in nearby Scottsdale, or in downtown Phoenix, which is just 12 miles to our south. We also have easy access to several local hospitals if needed, including Paradise Valley Hospital, Scottsdale Healthcare System and John C Lincoln North Mountain Hospital.
While our community is in a residential area, there are also dozens of stores and restaurants in the near vicinity, including a local pizza house that our residents love to visit. There are also several small beautiful parks in the area, which allows us to take residents on occasional picnics right in the neighborhood.
A Wonderful Selection
Sunshine Village truly is a village, with seven individual cottages all surrounding a park-like common area with beautiful trees, green grass, seating areas, walking paths and flowers. Each cottage includes seven bedrooms and can accommodate up to 10 residents – some of whom live together in a “Friendship Suite” to save on rent. The cottages have a large bathroom with a walk-in shower, living and sitting room area, and a front porch. Caregivers staff each cottage around the clock, including “24/7 awake caregivers,” who stay awake all night. The cottages also feature a dining room and small kitchen with a refrigerator. (All food preparation is done in the clubhouse, with meals brought into each cottage on heated carts, and served to residents restaurant-style.) The month-to-month rent includes weekly housekeeping services, cottage maintenance and all utilities, except individual phone/cable.
With our unique cottage set-up, residents are able to enjoy a home-like environment with the freedom to go outdoors when they feel like it. They can spend time on their front porches socializing, kick back and enjoy an old-time movie with their friends in their own living room or wander around our 10-acre property, strolling along its many pathways or taking a break on one of the many benches placed throughout our community. As one family member wrote: “The Village is a series of cottages. The grounds are beautiful and secure. The cottages are spacious and smell clean.” We also offer a large clubhouse, where our community activities are held. And for the convenience of our residents, our own beauty salon is open twice a week.
Strong, Caring Professional Relationships
We enjoy long-lasting relationships with the Alzheimer's Association, Banner Alzheimer's Institute, and with all of the local hospitals and rehabilitation centers in the area. In addition, because our residents do much better when they can receive services in the comfort of their own home, we bring in outside healthcare providers as necessary, including physical, speech and occupational therapists; podiatrists; ophthalmologists and optometrists; and even dentists. Residents can continue using a therapist they may have known before moving to Sunshine Village, with our staff making the necessary arrangements for them to provide services here. Local labs will also come in for any clinical testing our residents may need.
Our Staff
All of our caregivers are state-certified and receive ongoing training to ensure their skills remain up to date. This includes in-services held every two weeks on such topics as how to store and give medications, how to work with incontinence products and infection control. Because of our cottage layout, caregivers are responsible for a small group of residents, with two caregivers on duty during the day and one at night. We also have two Medication Technicians, who manage medications for each resident, as well as two Licensed Practical Nurses, who oversee all of our caregivers.
With many of our staff members having been employed at Sunshine Village for up to 10 years, we truly are one big family. They treat each resident like their own parent or grandparent.
As one family member wrote: “I love Sunshine Village and so does my mother. She has been there for about two years, and I have never seen her happier. She has made many friends and the staff takes great care of her. They have activities going on all the time for her. They totally spoil their residents and make sure my mom is always well cared for.” Or as another family member wrote, “The staff really knows how to work with someone with dementia. They treated my dad like his own children would – maybe better!” Sunshine Village has been recognized with great state surveys and many other awards from other healthcare agencies.
