Community Testimonials
I was impressed by how the facility treats the residents with respect and acknowledges that just because a person is "old" it does not mean that they are useless and do not have intelligence. for example: in an occupational therapy setting several residents were making a rather simple craft project; a couple of the residents felt that they were being treated like "children" with such a simplistic project. They were encouraged to discuss their ideas of projects and to share their experiences with crafts. The person in charge of the group took them serious and encouraged them to discuss their project, give a list of supplies needed and instructions and set up a date on the scheduale where the resident would "teach " the group. This showed validation of the resident and encouraged creativiy of other residents. Plus a sharing of ideas and an open mindedness of the staff member.
I have had the opportunity to spend a lot of time in this facility. I have been to many of the special activities and events that have been offered and I have talked to most of the residents at one time of another about how they like Emeritus at Flagstaff. One time they put on a fashion show using resident volunteers and the volunteers got makeovers and they got to keep the clothes they tried on. They had so much fun and the residents who volunteered were really great sports. They were all smiles as they strutted down the makeshift runway donning their new attire and look. The residents watching the show were having just as great of a time and they all had the job of judging the best makeover and look. Everyone had a wonderful time that day and I think that it really was an exciting event for the residents, and it is that type of event that the facility is always making available for the residents. The facility has a woodsy, log-cabin type of design and feel to it, which is very appropriate being that it is nestled in the trees of Flagstaff. I especially like it during the winter holidays when it is snowing outside, they always have the fireplaces lit and the smell of Christmas in the air, it is truly one of my favorite facilities during that time of year, and I always make an excuse to visit. I know that the families always like it there during this time as well, because the facility is always packed with visitors during this time and the Christmas parties are always very special. I would absolutely suggest this facility to caregivers. It is a wonderful place for your loved ones to call home.
